Think you get fired from most jobs if you have sex with those under you..unless you disclose it.

Because they were looking to get rid of him anyway. If he's undefeated and playing in the playoffs, this story never sees the light of day

Staffers arrested post Harbaugh hire:
-Denard Robinson: DUI
-Steve Clincscale: DUI
-Matt Weiss: pervert
-Scruggs: DUI
-Fergus Connolly: DUI, assaulting a police officer, biting hospital staff
-Jim Minick: DUI
-Sherrone Moore: took the Bobby Petrino exit strategy to levels no one could've imagined

Well, there are technically reasons... the biggest being that he's a public figure and therefor represents your University in at least some capacity.
You're not just a coach - you're a representative of the company.
It's why an affair would probably not get your head of IT fired, but it could definitely get your head of Marketing in trouble.
That said, if that's the expectation of the role, it should be defined in the contract, not something the university pulls out of its arse as an excuse later down the line.

So he didn't win a NC? The next NC winning coach run off for sex will be the first.

Pretty hard for it not to see the light of day when multiple pregnancies have allegedly occurred, third parties (ex: Door Dash drivers) are coming forward with related information, and the athletic department is receiving anonymous tips alleging Moore is engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
This situation reached beyond “sweeping it under the rug” status a while ago, no matter what Michigan’s record was.

Alabama fired one of its winningest coaches in their basketball history for the same thing, and it was consensual.
I've not seen one bit of documentation that she consented to the pimp hand.
Also, if you're the supervisor and you screw the help when it invariably goes bad you're getting fired. It's just that simple.

Why fire a coach for an affair?

He didn't get fired for the affair. Would you want a coach who carries a knife and threatens to off himself ? That's a wee bit unstable in a high pressure world.

There's way more than just the affair.
I don't know if "Lack of Institutional Control" is a thing anymore, but if it is, Michigan's program may be in trouble.
As noted in another thread:
There's a whole lot popping up since 2023, in particular.
Sherrone Moore was on Harbaugh's staff prior to taking over, so there wasn't a break or change in things.
As I also noted in a different thread, Michigan has been involved in at least 2 onfield brawls after the games ended in recent yrs, vs Michigan State and vs Ohio State (both 2024). That's the type thing we see posted here on Sports Lite that people laugh at, and potentially get bans
One is an aberration, 2 or more is disturbing and speaks to team discipline and culture.
This situation currently with Moore isn't just his affair, it's also the arrest too. For example, BRPD didn't need to go arrest Brian Kelly after he was fired to keep him from killing his wife, mistress or himself. He went a got a beer at Superior Grill and moved on with his life.
Like I said, Deboer might be feeling the heat from Alabama fans and boosters right now for not living up to Saban standards, but he isn't going to want to go to Michigan and rebuild that program from the inside out.

Yep, and they also fired a football coach for going to a strip club.
False. He was fired for charging the strip club to his expense account after already being warned not to do it again.

You can’t be fricking the help.

Let's be honest, if a coach is winning NCs shite will get covered up and people will get paid off. If you're not winning it gives folks the perfect out with cause, bottom line: Just Win Baby!
Just a simple dalliance? Maybe.
A long term affair involving an employee that possibly got a promotion in exchange for ending a pregnancy and is now pregnant again?
No. Even if it doesn't go completely off the rails like happened here that coach and school is cooked no matter the success level. The BEST he's getting out of it is being allowed to resign in lieu of termination. There's way too much on the line for the university.
The money they saved by firing him for cause is going to be needed to fund her settlement check because it's going to be massive.

I know that. The point in me stating it broadly like that was to illustrate how and why context matters. I was responding to the OP who illustrated the Moore situation as he "got fired for having an affair" without adding the relevant context of everything else regarding that affair. Just like if you simply say "coach got fired for going to a strip club" sounds silly, but if you add the context of he was fired for using a university credit card at a strip club it doesn't.

This is wrong too.
What did him in was that he left his credit card in the room with his entertainment from the previous evening, who proceeded to order up a massive amount of room service with it.
