What SEC school is in Atlanta? What about Hoover?

City for years tried to get the baseball tourney as well - the AAA stadium would be perfect - but nobody wants to move it out of Hoover

Agree, and for the poster who mocked Birmingham, the new Legacy Arena, a basketball arena, next to the new Protective Stadium and all the surrounding area, is really nice. There really is huge development in Birmingham today: downtown the new "uptown," and the southside around UAB. Crime is on the west side of town, Ensley mainly. It's different from Memphis, where today you see the whole Peabody Place standing empty. The Autozone baseball stadium there and Fed Ex Areana are nice, but you do get quickly into some danger zones.

Because there’s not enough bulletproof vest to go around?

People live in north MS and commute to Memphis cause they can’t afford the nice houses in Memphis
This is a lie.. some do, but the vast majority live in the Shelby County suburbs due to better school systems, less traffic, and more land for development. Memphis city schools collapsed due to corruption for a reason.
Memphis interstates were designed around factories that have been abandoned and the areas of Memphis those factories were are some of the heaviest crime areas because of it.
Downtown, which is where the tournament would be, is perfectly fine. There are areas you shouldn’t go, but if you’re worried about ending up like a Chiraq casualty from visiting for a tournament at the Forem that’s insane.
Use the same logic you use in any big city. The downside of Memphis is you have a lot fewer attractions outside the tournament.
You do have the Memphis Zoo, which is one of the top zoos in the US, you also have basspro at the pyramid, Graceland(real natives never go), children’s museum, pink palace, Overton park, Cooper/Young, Shelby Farms, Agricenter, Peabody, riverside drive, Tommy Lee Park, Wolf River Greenwalk(this will soon connect downtown all the way to the west side of Collierville from what I heard.
Just looked it up
quote:
Built in phases, this 10-foot and 12-foot wide pathway will eventually extend a total of 36 miles to connect neighborhoods all the way from the north end of Mud Island, in downtown Memphis, through the neighborhoods of north central Memphis, connecting to Shelby Farms and then to the cities of Germantown and Collierville, Tennessee.
That’s all spread out though and outside of Riverside, Tommy Lee, and the Peabody they aren't walking distance from downtown.

Memphis is basically a giant slum with about 2 dozen really awesome things to do/see/eat in it. Like the Delta itself, it's a place of extreme wealth in close proximity to extreme poverty.

Playa I’m saying the only reason people live in NMS is because the real estate cost is a fraction of what it cost to live in Memphis. They can’t afford Memphis
That’s a fact playa.
Also, there is two decent public HS in Memphis and that’s Houston High and White Station and you better be in AP classes at both or you are in trouble. If you live in Memphis you better send your kids to private school or they are in trouble.
Grew up in that city, went to private school in that city and lived there up until 5 years ago. I know it well.
The rich people live around Memphis country club area or in neighborhood before the 240 loop.
Memphis is one of the best basketball city’s in the US. There are more fans of SEC teams in that town than the Memphis Tigers and it isn’t close.
Nobody in Birmingham cares about basketball. Maybe they somewhat started last year.
Memphis had the SEC tournament in the early 90s and it was always a hard ticket to get.
Nashville, Memphis and ATL (although far from SEC basketball schools) should be on the list. I’m not mad about Nashville at all. I am glad I can drive two hours this year to Tampa but don’t think it should be there
Play on playa

When the REC okays a move they will tell Stanky.
They are considering WhiteFish, Montana if the graft can be nailed down. And a few more basketball goals can be found.

I live across the river from Memphis and the Fed Ex Forum is not in the desirable part of town.
Yes, there is a very narrow strip of million dollar condos on the river front (though to be honest the Mississippi basically looks like a huge drainage ditch) but just a couple of blocks away are the most run down, crime ridden, neighborhoods in all of Memphis.
Other than a handful of expensive hotels in the area if you want a decent place to stay you are limited to either getting one of the new hotels on the Arkansas side of the river or staying way out in suburbs on the other side of Memphis.
I will say Memphis loves basketball. It has that going for it. But Memphis has some real issues.

Memphis has had about 4-5 new hotels go up downtown in the last couple years..
Your view of hotels in Memphis might be the dumbest thing I’ve heard in this thread. Check how many hotels downtown Memphis has now.
Probably 15-20 hotels downtown now
FedEx forum is in a good part of town. WTF are you talking about? When I lived there I went to 30 Grizz games a year and have not once heard of someone having any issues going to or leaving games.
Downtown Memphis has had a major boom the last 10 years
Also yea get one of those new hotels in WM where you have the hood backing up to you. WM is worse than Memphis and it isn’t close
South main area got really nice again last few years
Grizzlies are a huge hit in that city.
If you live across the bridge I hope it’s Atleast Marion cause West Memphis is worse than Memphis.
Memphis can host the 2nd round of NCAA tournament and NBA playoff games but isn’t good enough for the SEC hahahahahahaha

Yeah, Memphis sucks and is terrible and dangerous. No reason for the SEC to set up any kind of shop here. Probably should tell your recruiting coaches to stay out of the city as well, for their own safety. However, if your teams want to play here against the local university that is fine.

It was a joke. I meant they "think" it's the Germantown of North Miss. My bad

East Memphis is very nice. It's actually not hard to avoid the ghetto of Memphis. I lived there the first 25 years of my life and have never had any personal encounters with crime. If you want to be edgy and live in gentrifying areas, then sure you may have some problems.
Regardless, the city of Atlanta isn't any better than Memphis. The people who are worried about crime live OTP in and/or in other counties surrounding Fulton. That can really be said of most cities in the South, and we all know the reasons why which everyone always dances around in threads like this, for obvious reasons

I wouldn't go that far but the crime rate in Nashville certainly isn't something to ignore. It's getting worse and worse as the city grows

Houston is in Germantown and part of the Germantown school system. Whitestation and Ridgeway are the two MCS that have optional programs with good AP classes, but you have to enter a lottery (or have money) to get into those programs.

I've seen those hotels. You are welcome to stay in those neighborhoods. Hell, I encourage you to stay at those neighborhoods. Please. Spend as much time in downtown Memphis as you possibly can.
All I ask is that you let me take out a life insurance policy for you. I could use that money to buy a nice hot tub.
