Memphis is a 3rd world shite hole

As those of us that grew up there, it’s not.

There are bad parts. Memphis’s major downfall were major factories moving production overseas for utilizing essentially slave labor for cheaper costs. As I pointed out, before they split Memphis’s major industrial hubs were in Southwest and parts of North Memphis. Whole communities were built around them. When the factories left, the next two generations suffered the cost. Many homes are condemned with people still using them as squatting spots for habitual drug use.

Then throw in political corruption top-down and you have the current Memphis environment.

East Memphis is fine. I did not find it to be particularly interesting, pretty, or fun. Ultimately my opinion is that Memphis is a city you have to choose between living with crime and living with strip malls. And I’d rather there be a third option.

My kids coach pitch team played Briarcrest back in the spring. You would have thought they were a travel ball team the way they showed up. Two teams coaches almost got in to a fight. It was trashy as hell and hilarious all at the same time.

I can't stand Briarcrest. They fit every stereotype of a Baptist school and they like to pretend they're some elite private school when, in reality, they're the kids that are either too poor or too stupid to go to the good private schools in the area. There's a reason they built their new high school way out in the country outside the city limits instead of building a new school on the existing property in East Memphis, which btw was a complete dump. The way that school was portrayed in The Blind Side made me irrationally annoyed That whole movie was a fairytale

I always thought it was funny that the kids that moved there from up north or out west were always the ones to show up the next year with a big truck with rebel flags and "aint skeered" stickers.

the residential areas of East Memphis are pretty, can't really agree with you on that. A lot has changed as far as things to do in the last 10 years as well.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. The suburbs of Memphis are no different than the suburbs everywhere else. And you don't have to choose to live around crime otherwise. It's very easy to avoid areas with a lot of crime.

I do not live in West Memphis.

I do live across the river from Memphis however. I don't get why you are stanning so hard for a lousy place to live but okay. You do you.

Are you property developer or something? You treat people bringing up the many issues Memphis has like they just peed in your mouth.

negative on ECS or Briarcrest. Yes, I went to MUS. I'm just joking on the Christian Brothers thing, sort of. It is/was a fun rivalry. There were fights at literally almost every game we played, and the banter back and forth from the students during games was always funny. Good times. As much I hated CBHS in high school, I'd send my son there before I'd ever consider Briarcrest or ECS

Here's the thing. Memphis people will talk shite about Memphis but don't like other people doing it, largely because outsiders over-exaggerate every bad thing about Memphis. Bottom line, it's a large southern city with more black than whites, political corruption, areas with high poverty and crime, etc. It's not wildly different than most larger cities in the South.

This right here. You know where youre supposed to be and where youre not supposed to be, i mean its pretty obvious. If you have to be some where you arent supposed to be: be respectful and dont be an arse, conduct your business and gtfo.

Not afraid of black people but, if you look at crime stats, some black people like to shoot, stab, rob etc. in numbers that far exceed the general population stats. And many of those black people are in places like Memphis.

They changed their name years ago to FACS, but that is so damn funny that it took them spelling out figs to realize "yikes"

But no, I don't believe I've ever known anyone who went there

Nothing says Collierville High School like a suburban kid having a jacked-up Silverado with a Mack's Prairie Wings sticker on the back and straight pipes that never saw anything but pavement
