I didn't know LSU Tigers were named for a Civil War regiment,
I think The official take on that is that we were the tigers after the Princeton tigers and the bit about the civil war regimen is apocryphal.
Which could be complete BS. FWIW there were units called the LOuisiana Tigers in prior wars too.

I’ve never heard that it was questionable. In fact, one student a couple of years back tried to get our name changed via a petition for the very fact that we were named for a civil war battalion.

Just google “Georgia football player arrested.” There are plenty of others to choose from. Your team isn’t loaded down with choir boys, but keep throwing stones. If you honestly believe the good ol’ boys at Georgia haven’t had their fair share of domestic violence issues, I’ve got some lake front property you really should consider purchasing.
The LSU situation is awful. Drake Davis is a scumbag. Using that situation to club LSU fans over the head is stupid, unless you somehow think the average LSU fan is somehow complicit in this horrible situation.

Most of the generically named teams in the conference have these original alternate nicknames. LSU could be the Bayou Bengals instead of Tigers. Auburn could be War Eagles instead of Tigers. Ole Miss could be Landsharks instead of Rebels. All of those sound cool.
Arkansas did it. We were the Cardinals, then our coach at the time described us as fighting like a band of razorback hogs after a football game against LSU, and the name stuck. Does anyone really think we need another Cardinals in sports?

Interesting, I don't think I've ever heard that before (looks like it happened in 1910).

What does an Elephant have to do with Crimson Tide?
What is a Crimson Tide?
Shouldn't it be Burgandy Tide?
The world may never know...

There’s not one, but would it really surprise you if one surfaced? It’s already well known that college athletics are breeding grounds for sexual assault, and football players are the biggest culprits. With the win at all costs atmosphere of college sports, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find out that many programs have skeletons in their closet which include cover ups. I just don’t have a lot of faith that this is an isolated situation.

Then they run out that anemic-looking tiger.

I miss when we had an actual Tiger in the stadium.

It really does intrigue me that people seem to think "no way my school could have a travesty take place. I, myself, simply have too much integrity for that to happen."

It isn't a very good cover up if people know about it
