Genuinely curious, no troll.

States are not bordering and the series isn't really close, LSU (.324).

Looking around other boards/sites I don't see any other fanbase get this hyped for Bama. Not even Tennessee or Auburn.

Is it the Saban connection?

I think it is because we don't just ACCEPT our status as tier 2 in the West. I realize that is what we have been relegated to the past 4 years, but we don't want to be there, we strive to be better, and therefore we don't accept being worse.

Saban was our coach. Now he is theirs.

So of course this game has a special meaning for a lot of people.

I agree with this. My wife made the comment a couple of years back that most fans go in to the Alabama game expecting to lose. With LSU, most fans don't have this attitude.

We really enjoyed going to Tuscaloosa for the LSU-Bama games until about 2007. We had a good time tailgating with the fans. Something changed in the attitude and we haven't been back.

Before Bama, most of us felt the same about Auburn. It goes in cycles. When Saban leaves, we will hate the next team on top.

For me, I like Saban. He left LSU for his dream in the pros. I wish he would have went to a school outside of the SEC, but I have no hard feelings toward him. I think he is a better coach since he had his time with the Dolphins.
