Why does everyone assume UT will contend for the East, but Florida will suck?

Everyone assumes Tennessee will be much improved because of all the 4 and 5 stars they have recruited, but Florida is loaded with 4 and 5 stars as well. Both programs seem identical to me right now: talented but underperforming. What did Tennessee do between the end of last year's below average performance and today that makes them so much better?

Same reason anyone thinks anything in the preseason. Feels.

Because not every coach can come into a train wreck and go to the NCG.
Not every coach is as talented as Gustav.

To be honest I think a lot of folks are looking at the lack of depth for the Florida O-line. They are going to face some teams with solid defensive linemen this year and that could be a recipe for disaster.

Because it's the off-season. Vols always win off-season.
Then the season starts...

I'm more worried about Florida than Tennnessee.

McElwain will coach circles around Flat Top.

Terrible Oline, shite passing game, brand new schemes on both side of the ball with a first year coach.
It's pretty simple really.

They are unproven on offense, with a qb battle, a not-so-good looking o-line, and new schemes to implement. Their defense will need to really put the team on their back for them to win more than 6 or 7.

1) Florida will be better than advertised. I did some research and its hilarious how bad Muschamp underachieved.
He's had as many five stars starting for him in his four years at UF as any coach in the country. 2012 UF had more 5 stars in the two deep than any of Sabans Bama teams. Let that sink in. (And yes, they had a good record that year but barely won several games and consistently underperformed.)
They have talent.
2) look at Bill Connellys Tennessee preview piece on SB nation and you will see why Tennessee fans are excited. On iPhone so no link.

Florida at least has a really good defense they can rely on to keep them in most games. What does UT have? I don't see them as being great in any area. And please don't say Dobbs. Being the best QB UT has had in several years does not make him a good QB.

Oh and on the SEC Network Vandy is on the 50 yard line with 45 seconds left, driving with the potential to beat or tie Tennessee. This is your last regular season game last year. You would think UT would improve drastically throughout the season with all that young talent.

That's a fair point, although UT has a much better QB. I think they are looking at 9-3 or so and UF at 7-5.

It is time for an intervention. tRant has a problem.

When half of your starters are out with injury to include 3 OL, your starting RB, 4 WR, and a MLB it's never as easy as you would like.
No one is denying that was a rough game for us though.

Tennessee has three Lombardi award candidates on defense. Most in the SEC. We have the second best NFL draft prospect in the nation at cornerback, the best defensive end in the conference, the deepest receiving corps in the conference, and more returning starters than any other team.
Try harder.

To be fair I don't think either one gets 8 wins this year.

I think you are confusing the number of threads started by UT fans as "everyone" talking about UT.
