For me... in my experience, It's their fans. Lots in engineers that don't know shite about football. They are generally fairweather fans that talk shite when they win and disappear when the loose. Very fickle fanbase.

This is why I hate AU's fanbase. Everybody that attended the school believes they attended some Ivy League school and look down upon any fan of a team who simply did not go that school. Be proud of your school wherever you attended, but gatekeeping a college sports team is one of the weirdest thing yall's fanbase does.

I do look down upon shite talking sidewalk fans of some other programs who have no tie to their team's school other than buying a fricking t-shirt. They are always the loudest and they have no skin in the game.

I am sure there are many other schools practicing some level of "gatekeeping" (Notre Dame, Baylor, Duke, Georgetown... and not just private schools: Clemson, Purdue - probably the best example, Rutgers(special case), Syracuse, etc. I am deliberately not listing universities located in major cities.)
Most of these universities do not have the state's name in the University's name, despite being state flagship universities (unlike many other universities, e.g. University of Tennessee, University of Alabama, University of Kentucky, etc, etc). So naturally, it is a different approach and dynamic than when the school is named the "University of [state]").

I'm sorry you don't like me pointing out the disproportionate amount of dislike for your school compared to actual success. You can have a few minutes to look some of those words up if you need to. Surely someone on wire road has a dictionary somewhere.

UGA has a similar record vs Vandy that we do vs Auburn. Auburn has cheated into obscurity, which they really were anyway. Auburn is a little school in Alabama that screams to be recognized, but they never will. They’ll always be that little school in Alabama.
