Why do you think all of a sudden your team with 3 losses will make it to the playoffs?

Granted 12 teams will get in ... and sure, if your team loses 3 and wins a conference -- which could happen if you're in a shitty conference -- you *could* get in.
But, if you're in the SEC with 3 losses, you won't be getting in.
At very most, 3 SEC teams will make the playoffs (and maybe only 2). With 3, it's just not happening.
But, feel free to put in your non-outlandish scenarios where you think it could happen.

Where do you see a lot of people thinking 3 loss teams will get into the playoffs?

we’re essentially down to 2.5 power conferences and you think 2-3 SEC teams are getting in?

You deal with should.
I deal with is.
It will not happen.

SECCG loser with 3 close losses to top 15ish teams gets in IMO.

2022 - 2, 3 loss teams ranked in final top 10 of CFP prior to playoffs
2021 - 1 team
2019 - 1 team
2018 - 4 in top 12
2017 - 1 team
2016 - 5 teams
Looks like more often than not at least 1 team, multiple in a good many years

Depend on who the losses are to and scores

4 power 5 conference automatic
Cinderella conference automatic. That’s 5 total
Sec 3 more
Big10 2 more

it absolutely will happen.

I thought all the conferences were getting an automatic team in?
Available spots for high rank three loss teams seem like they will disappear

The subtle troll of a Bama fan choosing to say “your team”

Literally one Florida fan asking about making it in with a 9-3 record with the toughest schedule ever

Nobody *thinks* that. My thread was about whether a 9-3 record with a schedule like Florida’s this year would qualify in a 12 team playoff. Most people agree because most people can properly reason some schedules are tougher than others for a given good team. I don’t think my Gators are going 9-3. I’m hoping they go 7-5. I’m expecting .500.
If FSU goes 9-3, they suck. If Texas goes 9-3 with their schedule, that’s not gonna look as good considering expectations for Texas. It’s not an even comparison.

Teams with 2 losses in the SEC will probably get in.
A team who gets their third loss in the SECCG is also probably in.
Your big mistake is this part:
Last year, four SEC teams finished 10-2 or better (not including Texas who would make 5). All of them would be in the playoff had it existed in a 12 team format last season.
2022 was 3 teams in a 12 team playoff.
2021 was 3.
2020 was 4 (OU would make 5)
2019 was 3 or 4 (Auburn at 9-3 was on the bubble but ahead of Bama at 10-2) OU would make it 4 or 5.
2018 was 4 (with OU making it 5)
2017 was 3 (with OU making it 4)
The SEC will have 3-4 most years. They'll almost never have 1-2. And sometimes they will hit 5 teams.
These aren't "scenarios". These are just looking at pre-bowl rankings from previous years.

I saw a rumor like that but right now the 5 highest ranked conference champions get an automatic bid. The expectation is that most years that would be SEC, Big 10, Big 12 and ACC champ with a minor conference champ taking the 5th spot.
The top 4 ranked conference champs get a bye.

Well, that would leave seven,. I thought I’d heard that even the small conferences were going to get an automatic

There was a rumor to that effect, but it didn't make a whole lot of sense. The rumor was that the SEC and Big 10 were pushing that setup, which would only hurt those two conferences.
Nothing ever came of it.

The reality is, if you finish in the top 10 before playoff selection, you'll be in.
11 and 12 are bubble spots. 3 of the 5 conference championship qualifier will also be in the top 12 every year. Sometimes the 4th and often the 5th conference champ will be outside the top 12. When that happens teams in the 12th and 11th spot might not make it.
But top 10 is safe.
Last year the top 11 would have made it. Ole Miss would have been in at 11. OU would have been out at 12. All of the top 12 had 2 or fewer losses.
3 loss teams making it will be rare. You have to go back to 2018 for that to happen.
UCF was ranked 8th and all of the P5 CC's were in the top 10 as well.
That means UF, LSU and PSU who were all 9-3 would have been in a 12 team playoff. Even if the committee had bumped up WSU who was 10-2 but ranked 13th, two of those 3 loss teams would have gotten in.
