The USC Trojans are a perfect example of what I have been saying. A longtime blueblood that has been slowly sinking into Nebraska-like mediocrity over the last 40 years, with a brief but temporary seven-year reprieve under Pete Carroll.

They have been mediocre enough, for long enough, that it is fair to ask whether they have lost blueblood status.

I am certainly not a USC fan, but the comment was that Texas was a top 5. I can only assume you would knock USC out of Blueblood top 5 and put Texas in? What has Texas done lately that USC has not?

Even if you only wanted to count AP titles and forget the titles they won before the AP started awarding titles (1928,1931,1932) they would still come out with 4. (1962,1967,1972,2003) And I would refuse to recognize the 2004 titles since it was stripped.

Texas only has 3 AP titles (1963,1965,2005) I would argue that USC would fit in top 5 more deservedly that Texas. no, offense to Texas, because they do have a long and storied history of having excellent teams, and I think they possibly could be considered in the Blueblood category...just not top 5.

Coming from an Arkansas fan

Blue blood is the most overused phrase that doesn’t mean shite anymore

Explain to me what exactly it means to a kid that was born in 2010 that you’re recruiting?

“Hey man check out this black and white video of us winning a title when you grandad was born”

This generation can’t remember a year ago. It’s so cringe when schools try to flex and say they are Blue Bloods like it means something

In what metric?

Historical success? none of them. Texas fits in the next group of 3-4 teams which are still blue bloods.

Current job desireability? Theyre ahead of USC, Michigan, ND and OU. the amount of money they have and the location of the school in relation to talent puts texas ahead of those teams by a significant amount.

OU has to hit Texas to get talent. Michigan has to hit Ohio as well as going nation-wide. ND has no local talent of note. USC is not financially supportive of football (both the state of California and SC's internal use of finances) to remain a tthe top of the CFB landscape.

Texas is a top 5 job. Right now I'd say those jobs are Bama, OSU, UGA, Texas... and a gap before a group of other teams fighting for the 5th spot.

That takes into account the resources the school has, the commitment the school has to spending resources, having reasonable expectations, having great recruiting for both HS players and through the transfer portal and having less influence from the school or boosters into football decisions.

History plays a huge role in some of those, but it's not the only thing. UGA is a top 5 job but UGA is NOT a blue blood.

Texas is both. They're a top 7-8 school all-time and a top 5 job right now.

Preach.

I do find the obsession with it on this board more than in the general discourse

True Texas has money, resources, talented players, a large fanbase and history.

They have something else in abundance which is not so great, arrogance.

Unchecked it leads to complacency, they underachieve.

Nebraska - 4
Oklahoma - 4
Notre Dame - 3
Ohio State - 3
Florida - 3
Florida State - 3
Georgia - 3
LSU - 3

Clemson - 3
Michigan - 2
Penn State - 2
Pitt - 1
Tennessee - 1
Texas - 1

Washington - 1
Auburn - 1
BYU - 1
Colorado - 1
Georgia Tech - 1

I mean Yale and Army are blue bloods as well. Maybe time to reassess.

Almost as cringeworthy as using "cringe" as an adjective.

The NCAA does not recognize national championships. I'd love for anyone to show me the official formula the NCAA uses for recognizing national championships.

NCAA.com is run by Turner Sports, aka Warner Brothers. The lists and such they post are just media guides written by some random editor. What they contain is constantly changed between whatever that particular editor/writers decides. Often times, they just put whatever people claim.
