Which game was lost because of a failed 4th down attempt?

You’re looking at 9-10 wins vs 8-9. That’s huge in terms of postseason scenarios and possible SEC title berths.

Isn't the whole idea that precisely the opposite is true (metrically, the attempts are a net neutral or beneficial?)

He’s completely talking out of his arse. If he could find me one game that was directly lost over fourth down attempt then I can find a large number of games were successful fourth down attempts helped extend drives into scoring scenarios.

Lane is a sexy hire because he talks smack on Twitter and usually has good offenses.

Somebody explain to me what talking smack on Twitter has to do with being a,good football coach.

Alabama this year…forgoing the 3pts and turning it over on downs early in the 1st quarter. Alabama last year (Lane killed any chance in the 1st quarter).

His hyper aggressive style early in the game backfires against great teams. To each their own if you don’t see it.

We were down 35-0 in the mid-3rd that game.

Part of the reason we were down that far were 4th down ho for its in the 1st that didn’t convert.

4th & 2 11:37 1q at the Ala 12 yard line - Zach Evans for no gain.

Take the 3 and play from there. It changes the end of the game being up 27-24 going into the 4th instead of tied. More pressure on Bama to produce in a game that you were the better team on the field.

I like taking the points early in big games. It never hurts to do so.

Dart had more mistakes that cost us than that one fourth down play

ah....so you believe this would have led to absolutely no different outcome through the remainder of the game? 3 and a half quarters where there is absolutely no change in play-calling or philosophy? Are you familiar with concept of the Butterfly Effect?

Had this been in the 4th....or even late in the 3rd, I would likely agree with you. But the very first drive of the game?

2021

Turnover on downs from the 6 and at midfield on the first two drives. Bama goes up 14-0. The game was over at that point.

It absolutely changes the complexion of the late game. I’ll agree to disagree and that is why your 10th win will be whatever bowl game you play and not in the regular season.

once again....we were down 35-0 in the 3rd. We couldn't stop Bama. They went 94 yards for a TD after giving them the ball at the 6.

Congrats. It's now 7-3 to start the game instead of 7-0.

And are you saying we should have attempted a ~60 yard field goal on the second failed attempt? They had just driven 94 yards with ease. We could not stop them.

It's absolutely blowing my mind you think we would have won that game if not for those two plays.

you're right....it absolutely DOES change the complexion of the game. But it doesn't give us a win.

I asked which game was lost because of a 4th down attempt. You still cannot show me one. You're assuming no changes in play-calling or coaching philosophy but at the same time saying "it changes the complexion of the late game."
