Why do Bama’s 5 championships seem like way more?

Why do I get the feeling when they go the next few decades without winning a championship (unlike LSU, they NEED a good coach to win, and there will never be another Saban), it’ll seem way shorter? If I’m still around in 2050, I wonder if it’s going to feel like 33 years without a Bama championship.

In the grand scheme of things, their 5 championships spanned from 2009-2017. 9 seasons isn’t exactly the blink of an eye, but it just feels like it’s been so much longer.

Would be curious if there are any case studies on this in respect to human perception of time vs. reality.

Dynasties usually last around 3-4 seasons before starting to fizzle. Bama not only won 5 championships from 2009-2017, they also had multiple seasons where they damn near won it all. In fact, I’d say that every season from 2008-2021 save for 2010 had a Bama team that could have won the NC. They played and lost in five CFB playoffs (2014, 2016, 2018, 2021, 2023).

So the “feeling” of it being longer isn’t just a feeling. Bama hasn’t really been an actual “loser” but once or twice in 17 years.

That's because they won 6 with Nick Saban?

2010 team was also nasty at times.

My opinions on that season ...

The problem we had in '10 was we had the same offense we had in '09 minus a little bit of the OL. We couldn't put LSU away or come back against Auburn or put points up against South Carolina when they were raining bombs on us.

We also were pretty lucky that Mallet (RIP) couldn't keep his earlier play in the game going. That and Urban and Florida were inept without Tebow.

For sure, one of the more interesting teams of the Saban era.

ETA: 5? ok you got me.

09, 11, 12, 15, 17. Some speculate they could’ve won it all in 2020 but Covid made that an exhibition year, and because of the massive opt outs and that it didn’t count towards eligibility, it remains unofficial. All I remember about that season is cardboard cutouts and female kickers.

I member when they would use recruiting rankings as a reason to justify jumping other teams for a slot and completely ignore not even winning their division.

There it is. Apologies that your teams got cucked by a severe cold.

Do you wanna know something funny? 20 years ago I was told there would never be another Bear by my Auburn friends who gloated about their success at our expense.

The LSU coach didn't seem to think it was an exhibition when Alabama dominated his team

It was an exhibition, he just knew every loss got him closer to being fired. Did they even give a banner that year? If so I’m sure it’s tucked away in a closet somewhere.

LSU fans particularly angry now, though, because UGA has also surpassed their program. With Texas coming in this season LSU will be, at best, 4th in the conference.

As a LSU fan, I laugh when people say 2020 didn’t count because you and I both know if LSU would have won the natty we wouldn’t say shite about COVID.

Double standards are hilarious

Probably because LSU fans will never get over Saban.

Wrong. LSU has three national titles this century, second most of any SEC program
