Why did Sankey go to 9 SEC games but block the 24 team playoff this year?

I guess if we still get 4 teams in this year it will be fine, but its gonna have to be some 3 loss SEC teams

having said that, he is an idiot and has done a very poor job leading the SEC

I think it’s because he didn’t want to give up the SEC Championship game.
Thought I read somewhere that the SEC will actually lose money by getting rid of SEC Championship game and moving to 24 team playoff, while other conferences will net more money.

Think about it. Right now, with an 8 game conference sked most teams play 4 Group of 6 teams.... They pay them close to a million a game to be a punching bag. Going to 9 teams would actually increase revenues, I would think, because you don't have the expenditure of a door mat that you want to have a practice game with.
Also, with the B1G having a 9 game conference sked, there's the potential for a team from that conference making it to the playoffs over an SEC team when you consider tie-breakers.
Losing the Conference Championship is kind of a toss up for me. I mean, you lose a week of practice before the playoff. There's a chance you could lose a key player to injury. Right now, with the 12 team playoff the conference championship isn't that important. With a 24 team playoff it becomes less important. Just end the season with a 9-3/10-2 record and, more than likely, your in.
