Oh, I don't make light of the plight of the cops at all. They don't know what they don't know.
It would seem that the simplest thing to do is for the homeowner to get in the house, change locks, throw the trespasser's things out on the street and be done with it.

Trespass is a criminal matter, is it not? It seems to be a logical perversion to treat trespass as a civil eviction item just because the trespasser used fraud in the form of a false lease and duration....
