No wonder they had to cheat so much.

If I remember correctly historically Auburn has the #1 SEC SOS and Alabama #2 when they go back and come up with all-time in conference opponent win %.

But LSU/Auburn has turned into such a great series with probably more memorable games since the SEC split than any other series.

so Auburn has been cheating ever since they started playing football?
damn, that's impressive

So it was Auburn’s first home game against Georgia Tech… their first home game ever, actually, Nov. 7, 1896. The Tigers destroyed the Yellow Jackets in the shadow of Samford Tower to the killer tune of 45-0. However, there is a good chance the game was not decided, at least entirely, by Auburn’s superior grasp of Xs and Os but rather Tech’s curious lack of Zzzs.
The buzz, as it were, was that the coach-less team from Georgia was hitting town by train in the wee, gameday morning hours. And so unknown number of Auburn cadets decided to welcome the team by literally greasing the rails for an Auburn victory, conspiring under an Alabama midnight only two days removed from a new moon to coat more than 400 yards worth of rails on either side of the train station with pig grease and lard and soap. The result: an unstoppable, brake-less slide past Auburn half-way to Loachapoka, nearly five miles.

The subject of SEC scheduling prior to divisions is fascinating.
It was so ... unregulated, and random at times.

As an Older AU Fan, I can say that I don't miss the GA Tech game as much as I miss playing Florida and Tennessee every year. Although the "Wreck Tech" parade on campus was always a lot of fun!

I miss playing Florida State like we did in the 80s up until 1991

that was a really cool series; no so long and old, because they really were a girls school back in the day
y'all are 13-5 against them; played them at least every other year or more from the mid 50's through 1990
another cool Auburn tradition ruined by SEC expansion; y'all should schedule a home/home with them, if I were an Auburn (or FSU) fan, that would be a top priority
Auburn vs FSU series history

That's because you losers were paying players more back in the day. And it was something about the facilities in downtown Birmingham. We were more refined. A gentlemans team if you will. So the series took 40 years off.

We kept playing Georgia Tech annually even after they left the SEC until 87. Have sadly only played them twice since though.

Permanent rival is Georgia, lost rivalries against Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia Tech. yeah y'all really do belong in the east.

I definitely miss the Auburn-Florida series, as well as Auburn - Ga. Tech. Tenn would be third for me out of those three opponents.
Since 1992, the LSU series has become one of my favorites.
Mississippi state is obviously one of our most played opponents but that series just doesn't have as much meaning as some of the others. Still pretty cool how often we have played them though.

In the Fifties Tulane students once kidnapped Mike the Tiger, dyed him green, and turned him loose in the FQ.
