Ok but that doesn’t really answer my question. There has to be some reason that this is the rule.

Again, the regular season only counts for seeding in Basketball. The Regular Season Champ does not get an automatic bid into the NCAA Tourney, so it doesn't matter. Barnes and Pearl are both former fired coaches, so now they are both loved by their fanbases, which is good for the SEC.

Good job UT. Good coach. But we know who the best really was. And that is all that matters. We goin Tourney!

Technically they are both champions for the record books.

Because Tennessee is incredibly insecure. With how shitty their football program has been for an entire decade now. Greg Sankey and the SEC offices felt that Tennessee losing the SEC Tournament to Bruce Pearl in such close fashion would send many Vol fans over the edge and set off an epidemic of suicides in Tennessee.

Because Auburn and most people associated with us are such great people, and because we couldn't live with that blood on our hands, Auburn, new AD Allen Greene, and Bruce Pearl graciously agreed to "share" the SEC title and allow Tennessee to call themselves "co"-Champions.

The rest of us know who the real champ is though, and we just give each other a wink behind Vols fans backs.
Deep down the Vols know too that they're pretenders, 94-84 replays in their nightmares every night.

Because the SEC only needs the tiebreaker for seeding. They prefer Co-Champions because it makes more than one fanbase happy. It also allows multiple coaches to have it on their resume.

So then Auburn is no longer SEC football champ for 1988, right? Can't have it both ways.

It’s the regular season championship. It don’t mean dick really. Win the tournament and you won’t have to share it. That’s like saying you won the SEC west in football. Who gives a frick unless you when the SEC title.

I know you're new to this basketball thing but it's always been that way. It was the same way in football up until the SECCG.

You mean Auburn style, considering y'all celebrate 2002 and 2005 as SEC West titles.

Well the regular season champion is the SEC Champion so there’s that.

It honestly blows my mind how many people don’t know that, btw.

I beg to differ. Conference tournament champion sounds a whole lot better than Season Co-Champion. You can’t tie the conference tournament.

As history shows...it's significantly more difficult to win the regular season than the tournament. tRant needs to read the SEC Bi-Laws. There is no such word as Co-Champions in it...Auburn and UTk are the SEC Champions.

It wasn’t always that way. The tournament used to decide the conference champion.

They will always and forever be Co-Champions. Don’t try and fool yourself.
