Because you'd have the same record

Tiebreak is only for seeding

It is what it is. It’s always been like that. Tenn got hot when they needed to and we lost a couple that we probably should’ve won on paper.

Right. But we have the tiebreaker? In any other sport or format that chooses the winner

I’m not mad about it, I’m thrilled. Just genuinely curious

Because the SEC only needs the tiebreaker for seeding. They prefer Co-Champions because it makes more than one fanbase happy. It also allows multiple coaches to have it on their resume.

It is dumb tbh. We were cochamps with LSU back in I think 91 and we swept them.

Ok but that doesn’t really answer my question. There has to be some reason that this is the rule.

Eh you’ll get downvotes because you are both an Auburn fan and “it’s the way it’s always been” and the fact that it is that way in multiple sports other than basketball; but it’s a good question imho

We all give Ole Miss flack for the 2003 SECW Co-champs banner when the logic is pretty similar there.

See 2016.

A&M and Kentucky were co-champs even though A&M won the only head to head matchup.

Yea. But why? I’m not whining I promise you, I’ve just never thought in-depth about it. It seems silly

no it doesn't

That only applies to football and that's because you have to have an actual line of demarcation when it comes to the SECCG and the bowls. And even then, the SEC doesn't even recognize as one or the other. The conference recognizes co division champs

Ok but why? And isn’t the term co champion an oxymoron ?

I have no idea why they do it. They just do

you are right but count me in the camp that thinks if you have a tiebreaker in the form of H2H you should use it and crown a single champion

I’ve felt this way for years and that has absolutely nothing to do with the current basketball standing fwiw.

I would think that if you have the ability to differentiate between the two because everyone has played each other, that would make sense. However, I guess it would be impossible if two teams had the same record and split the h2h matchups. I think I just answered my own question... but... I still dunno

Well I would have loved to see that opinion back in 2016 when every non A&M poster on this board shat on A&M posters over being happy about a co championship when we held the head to head over the co champion

it was mostly just LSU fans, the same ones that pretend they solely finished 2nd in the SECW in 2012

I don’t think I was an avid poster in 2016 and definitely wasn’t during basketball season.
