Barnes and Pearl are both former fired coaches, so now they are both loved by their fanbases, which is good for the SEC.

In fairness, Pearl was more NCAA'd out than fired. We tried to keep him until we couldn't.

I beg to differ. Conference tournament champion sounds a whole lot better than Season Co-Champion. You can’t tie the conference tournament.

You can beg to differ all you want. Take it up with the SEC.

We are the champs, everyone knows it. I hope UT hangs a banner Ole Miss style.

SEC bi-laws dictate we can.

I find this statement ironic coming from a program who’s football program will hang a west banner while their rival hangs a National title one.

Ok but that doesn’t really answer my question. There has to be some reason that this is the rule.

To keep it simple, I suspect, since basketball, unlike football, has a variety of ways two teams can meet in the regular season. Some teams you play once, some you play twice (which means they can split the series) and then trying to determine tie-breakers down the line can get hellaciously complicated since every other team also has a varied schedule. So rather than create tie-breaker rules for all the possible scenarios, they just say that equal records means co-champions and that way there's no need to do anything except run your finger across the standings to decide who wins the conference.

??

Because Auburn shares everything. You shared a SEC West title in football and now you share a title in basketball. Congrats on being Share U.

UCF has a better claim to the football national championship than Tennessee does to the SEC championship because they never lost to the "other champion" as UT did.

Either way it sucks because between the two co-champs one is a school known for incest and the other a school known for being another Clemson without the lake. Both suck.

Because you'd have the same record

Tiebreak is only for seeding

Technically, the same way football works for divisions.

You don't even realize that they are different sports, do you?

Thank you. This is the same conclusion I came to when I thought about it enough. Makes sense.

But the term co-champion is still funny to me

Yep. People get mad when I factually point out that Alabama has won the West 6 years in a row.
