Why are Vols fans so upset?

I live outside of Nashville and some coworkers and friends are losing their minds over Heupel (in a bad way).
I'm just curious.. who did you think you were going to get? You're not 90s or early 00s UT anymore.. you can't just go pluck whoever you want.
I realize I'm throwing stones from my glass house because our coach is Ed Orgeron but at least we've got some hardware to show for it.. flash in the pan or not.
Heupel should've been the most likely conclusion anyway after UT hired Danny White. But why are you guys so upset? It's not a terrible hire.

Tenn will score points and SEC will look more and more like the B12 and Pac 12

Chadwell would be far better than this mongoloid with a lisp

With the looming sanctions and depleted roster, plus the direct effect it will have on recruiting, I don’t think any coach would succeed regardless of who it is.
The best we can hope for in the next 3-4 years is a couple solid wins/seasons and to build a roster foundation for the next guy.
The next hire, hopefully free of sanctions and any major buyout, and with some decent talent, needs to be a grand slam.
Heupel is a great hire for where we are and what we are about to go through. Not the best in the business, but he accepted the challenge and knows he is likely walking into a set up for failure.
I support the hire.

I agree. Honestly you just need a coach, anyone, and he will do while you get through the dark years. Better than just getting some unknown assistant somewhere.

They already had Steele
He was perfectly positioned to go hire some big recruiters and a couple of decent coordinators and let them do their jobs for 2-3 seasons until Tennessee was out of trouble and looking more appetizing to bigger candidates.

Agreed. Not sure why anyone would be surprised that White would want Heupel, who he is very familiar with.

Still better than Shane Beamer
This was as good as it was going to get given the circumstances

You don’t fricking hire your struggling arse buddy from UCF. That’s not why we paid $4
Mill to get White. Total clusterfrick.

Exactly. Why else bring him in? You want to self-report numerous Level one violations and then make a splash hire?
This is getting to be an amazing journey through the mental process of people who seem to have no compass. It's ironic that Tennessee fans often talk about the program wandering in the wilderness, but these folks in the hierarchy look like they are literally going in circles.

Lets see who Josh can hire as assistant coaches. That could be difficult as well.
Will Jay Graham stick with the Vols are sign with Saban?

I get the stop gap with everything looming on the horizon for Tennessee but if the staff doesn't have elite recruiters, it's gonna get really ugly.

Just turned on the local radio sports show and well..
Caller: "I don't think what people understand is Josh Heupel is a guy,"
Silence
Silence
Host: "I think we lost our caller"
Caller: "I'm still here."
