It could be when Saban is just down the hall.. and if it worked out, we would all be fricked.. and it hurts Kirby in the process.

That's a recipe for disaster.

This is about as safe of a hire as it can get. There were going to be risks with every single one of these candidates other than Kirby, but his accomplishments in such a short period of time makes him the "best" risk. The guy has flat out won everywhere he's been. He's already 5-0 against two of the other candidates (with lesser talent), Lanning and Sark.

Lanning, Sark or Norvell all would have been better…they said no. BK or Lane would have been your best two options…but one you didn’t call and the other you knew had no chance of getting. I could list numerous more…

It was funny watching all of the Bama fans say BK was a bad hire, not a good fit, wouldn't be a good recruiter, and was LSU's 4th choice.

But it's funnier to see them getting mad when the same happens to them.

No serious person felt BK was ever a bad coach. But, his fit wasn't good. In fact, with BK's recent hires it seems to acknowledge his fit wasn't good and he's bringing in guys who do fit the geographic footprint of his chief recruiting areas.

A combined 0-5 against DeBoer with more talent.

Bama isn't the place for a first time head coach.

Totally disagree.
Following Saban is either a home run or a disaster. If it’s a disaster, you get it done and move on.
I think it’s a great hire either way.

Lanning or Lane would have had me worried

DeBoer is a good coach, but 90% of his resume is the minor leagues.

He just doesn’t scare me. Certainly happy to have him at bama bc I don’t think he will recruit Louisiana very well

Including those who turned you down?

Or just out of the ones who didn't?

Neither have done anything of note. The first guy can't even beat DeBoer (0-3) with a more talented roster.

Lane was clearly #1 for who I didn't want Alabama to hire.

Kirby obviously, but that's a no go. Who should Bama have hired?

The guy we hired is a great X’s and O’s guy but you have to be a great recruiter in the SEC.
Remember what Saban said to Mal? “You’re hiring a shite coach but no one will our recruit me.” Now obviously he was poor mouthing his coaching abilities but it definitely all starts with recruiting and this was an X and O hire instead of a recruiting hire.
Kiffin would’ve been phenomenal. Evidently he banged a boosters wife though.
Sark should’ve been given a fully guaranteed contract. Texas wouldn’t have matched it.
If not Sark it should’ve been someone off of one of Saban’s staffs.

PBJ should’ve told the booster who stopped it to get over his wife’s infidelity or go be a booster at Auburn. Lol

Saying Lanning had more talent is disingenuous when the most important position had a 1st round QB that’s being compared to Pat Mahomes vs Box freaking Nix. Lol

DeBoer is a good hire. Lucky for the rest Of the SEC there will be a notable drop off regardless.

Now that Saban has hung up his whistle I do not think there is another coach out there on his level. Kirby would be the closest I guess but Kirby is coaching at the place he played at in college so he is not gonna leave for another college unless he has a serious falling out with the AD or something like that. There just isn’t any big name coaches anymore. There are a lot of good coaches but college football doesn’t have the legendary coaches it used to have.

Just look at college football coaches from the 60’s until the late 90’s. You had Bryant, Paterno, Royal, Spurrier, Bowden, Woody & Bo, Parseghian, Holtz, Osbourne, Neyland, Schnellenberger, and Jimmy Johnson. All those guys are just to name a few. We do not have Coaches of that stature in the game today now the Saban is gone. Urban Myer was on the level of Saban for a few years but then he self destructed. Dabo was on the level of Saban for a hot second but has fell off drastically. We just do not have big time coaches in the game anymore that everyone would just die to have and it’s sad because nothing is better than watching 2 legendary college coaches square off against each other.

Lanning or Kiffin would have had me concerned. I'm less certain with Deboer
