The funniest part of all of this is all the talk we hear is how LSU will fail because how bad Harris is. So basically we will flop because of the QB spot yet Alabama gets a pass and you rarely here one person say that they might be in a worse spot at QB then we are, yet God forbid it's Alabama.

I don't think Harris is bad, I think Les needs to get his grubby grass stained hands off the offense and give Cameron free reign. LSU's offense is stale and predictable.

Honestly, when you look back at Alabama the last few years and realize that 3 different first year starters won championships can you not understand why Bama get's a pass?

Kiffin has proven that he's a damn good QB coach and OC. Hell, he even improved Jonathan Crompton at Tennessee in the short time he was there. The man does a decent job.

Just this guy, but I've been told he sucked.

I think Aj McCarron was a sophomore when he earned the starting job, either way Lane Kiffin will find a way to work to the strength of whoever the starting QB is.

Ok, so one? I'm not trying to be an a-hole here; just trying to assess the QB play at Bama the last ten years.

Would this be considered a down year at Bama or the norm?

Bama has 3 QB's who were 4 or 5 star recruits that have been in the system 1-4 years.

QB may not be a strength, but I don't see it being a liability either.

Well, I guess that would depend on how you rated Coker.

Saban inherited John Parker Wilson, who started as a sophomore but that was under Shula.

McElroy was a junior when he became the starter.

McCarron was a sophomore.

Sims was a senior.

Coker was a senior but a transfer who started his second year in the system.

Looking at it another way, here's how they break out in 'years in the system' before they became starters.

Wilson - 0
McElroy - 2
McCarron - 2
Sims - 4
Coker - 2

Not counting the inherited Wilson, all but one of Saban's starting QBs at Bama only had 2 years in the system when they were handed the keys to the car - and all three of them won a national title their first season as the starter.

Now, look at the guys competing for the starting job that same way.

Cooper Bateman - 3 years
David Cornwell - 2 years
Blake Barnett - 1 years
Jalen Hurts - 0 years, 2015 enrolled winter 2015.

Unless Hurts shocks everyone, it is going to be pretty much the normal transition.

Yes. Redshirt junior so he's had 3 years in the system.

Hurts is a hell of an athlete. True dual threat guy.

Bateman is a legit 4.5 forty guy but looks like he may be afraid of contact.

Barnett was a 5star dual threat guy but his last time to my knowledge was in the 4.8 range.

Cornwell is a classic dropback guy with a strong arm.

They were all highly recruited.

In my opinion, this is the best situation at QB that we had, because regardless of who becomes QB everyone of them has more ability and talent than some of the QBs that we had to choose from in the past. Im gonna put it like this usually we would have to choose between one 4 star and a few 3 stars, now every QB is atleast a 4 or 5 star

We're in good shape according to the experts that make a living rating these guys when they are still 17 years old. If there is any position that is hard to gauge with high school film it's quarterback however. If we could swap the experience and switch Bateman and Barnett up I would feel a whole lot better. You just never know until they get a few games under them. Hope somebody at least separates from the others and firmly wins the job early. Our September schedule isn't ideal for any kind of quarterback controversy.

Stars are stars..but players determine what is and what ain't.. Marcel Dareus was a 3-star when he came to the Capstone...no hard feelings or offense to Colt McCoy/Longhorns..one hit and Texas hasn't been the same since

No, the following started:

McElroy-4th year in system
McCarron- 3rd year in system
Coker-2nd year in system

Sims-spent one full season at RB and one full season at DB so he was a 3rd year guy at QB but he and JPW were 5th year "at the school" when they took the team to great heights.

Saban has made football a "team" game. We dont have to have a great one. Auburn does. You ever thought LSU has struggled because other players weren't that good and not just the QB?
Your D line was weak last year
Your O line was weak
Your RB was overrated, both of them since Guice is now a first round pick
Your DB's are pedestrian, not future hall of famers as LSU fans say

If you had Saban or Arnsparger coaching this team you might be taken more seriously.

I'm an LSU fan. I know Alabama has had many horses in the stable at the QB Position. Guys that have been in the system for years. But since this is the first year, from what I know, that no one on the roster at QB is an upper classman.

Bateman is a redshirt junior, so he's technically an upperclassman...he has 'bout as much experience as either Sims or Coker had before they started, however, he doesn't appear to have the arm strength of either...
