Monster recruiting class

The state of Georgia produces around 35 "4 Star" recruits every year. Florida produces 45. Texas 40. Georgia is the only nationally recognized program in the state(GA Tech doesn't count IMO). State of Alabama only has 10 "4 star" yet has two big time programs Auburn and Alabama. Ditto with South Carolina, 10 "4 star" recruits with Clemson and USCe.

If Kirby recruits his state he wins big period. It shouldn't be no surprise. Many of these kids grow up dawgs and their family are dawg fans. Huge push for kids to stay in state and play for the home school. Georgia was always the sleeping giant. This is why some UGA fans saw Mark Richt as unacceptable. Kirby is just doing what he should.

Fair but UGA has kids committed from NC, SC, TN, OH, FL, KS, and Oklahoma. It’s not like you’re just locking down Georgia and calling it a day. They’re pulling kids from Miami, which is a good 10+ hours from Athens.

How does Georgia get 3 5* QBs 3 years in a row? How does a 5* QB come in with a true freshman starting?

This is a common question.

By staggering redshirts, and QB transfers becoming more and more common, it's not as much of a risk these days to get "stuck" on the bench. A 5* kid can come in, try to win the job, maybe redshirt, maybe get reps as a freshman and redshirt the soph year, and if by junior year still feels stuck, hopefully you are graduating early and can transfer wherever you want, unrestricted.

The pitch is "Come here, practice, train, compete, win a job, if you can't win a job, at least you tried, and got to be a Georgia Bulldog, something nobody can ever take away from you, and you can still transfer somewhere else and still have your shot at the NFL."

NC - not the first time we pulled a great back From there..see Gurley
SC - we pulled the best WR to ever play there years ago, AJ Green
TN - that was due to turmoil at UT and Pruitt’s mouth
OH - we don’t have anyone from there
KS - he was a signer last year going to Juco in Kansas, he’s from Georgia
Miami - maybe you’ve seen a guy who plays for us now from Miami..Michel

Does this surprise you? Saban recruits and has pulled talent nationwide for years at Alabama.

And what kind of deal did he get? 10 years or 20 before the devil comes calling?

Monster recruiting class, wins the SEC, and in the CFB playoffs in his second year?

You realize that Richt won the SEC and would have been in the playoffs in his 2nd year, right? It's like people forget the 02-07 era richt and only remember the 2009-2015 richt. The only major difference in early richt and kirby is that kirby has taken our recruiting to a whole nother level, with a major emphasis on the LOS which richt never did.

But it's not like a successful season was uncommon under richt.

2016- the only QB we had with any actual experience was a total scrub who was never going to be the starter with any legit competition. Easy choice for a 5* to come in

2017- The Fromms loved kirby, and he is the major reason he committed to bama in the first place. Kirby goes to UGA, fromm goes to UGA. Add in the fact we only had 1 QB on the roster to compete with, so it's not like he was looking up a mountain of a depth chart.

2018- Eason may or may not transfer, we don't know, but if he does we're in the same situation of only having 1 QB on the roster. However, Fields has a completely different skillset than anyone else we have. He can redshirt (not likely) and add in another year of separation, but if not he will undoubtedly see PT early and often in 2018.

some of what’s going on doesn’t make rational sense.

So bama signs a top 2 recruiting class for like 8 or 9 straight years and that's cool, saban being saban. But kirby pulls in a #1 class and it doesn't make sense? Got it.

I will add some more to Dawgfanman's post.

Zamir White and James Cook will both play next year. There were no doubts UGA would sign two big time RBs this year because of the Michel and Chubb graduation. Playing time was available.

Channing Tindall. - our defense is all seniors and Juniors. Tindall was sold on replacing Roquan Smith who will go pro.

Cade Mays - if UT wasn't such a dumpster fire, he would have went to UT. Enter Sam Pittman.

The tight end from Illinois, Luke Ford, hit it off with Justin Fields at one of the camps. He was quoted early as saying he would sign wherever Justin Fields signed.

It should surprise no one. I'm not sure what angle TDcline is coming from, unless he is one of the Dodge Charger, T'town Menswear, house sitting jobs, Hot Wheels, fishing trip folks that constantly parrot the cheating frenzy by the REC Machine.

Zamir White is a big question mark. Sure, his ACL tear should be healed by opening day, but whether or not his body will be in game-ready condition after spending all Spring and Summer in rehab is another story.

Remember, Chubb tore his early in 2015, and it was "miraculous" that he was ready to play in the 2016 opener.

White tore his much later in the season than Chubb did.

It's not realistic to expect him to contribute much to the 2018 season.

But if I'm wrong, I'm wrong! I would love to be wrong about this.

Ummm...chubb tore just about everythign there is to tear other than the ACL. All white tore was an ACL. You can't compare the 2 injuries because they aren't even remotely similar.

Several mentions have been made of the fact Richt NEVER recruited O linemen and D linemen as well as what was needed. I am glad Richt is doing well in Miami but he had taken this Georgia program as far as it was going to go, imo.

It is unreal the amount of talent that is produced by Georgia high schools. A lot of these boys grew up pulling for the bulldogs.

I attended my first Georgia game in 1972. I have said for years that if Georgia ever got the right coach in place and had the FULL SUPPORT of the administration the program would soar. I thought Richt was the guy for a while but I really started to doubt he could get the job done along about the 4th or 5th year he was there.

You doubted his abilities around 2004/2005 in the midst of us winning SEC titles and going to BCS bowls?

Thansk for correcting me on a technicality. My point remains that it's overly optimistic to expect him to be a full time contributor on day 1.

I'm not worried though, Swift, Cook, Holyfield with Herrien as a backup, and White as an injured-reserve type of backup, getting a little garbage time early in the season. He'll probably be contributing alot more by October.

It's not really a technicality, it'd be like comparing a guy with astroturf burn on his arm to a guy whose arm was severed.
