Sturdivent was rated lower as a recruit.
This isn't popular, but Sturdivant was over-rated by UGA fans. Every achievement by him circles back to "as a freshman".
He wasn't a top 6 tackle in the conference. Only if you qualify it "as a freshman".
In my opinion, Andrew Thomas and Cody Glenn were head and shoulders better. John Theus was slightly better.

I distinctly remember Cordy Glenn being a 3 star recruit, despite the fact that he became a great OL. Am I mistaken on that?

This is absolute BS. TS was phenomenal and all you have to do is go back and watch film from 2007 to see it. He was a damn near dominant left tackle and would be at any class level, but the caveat "as a freshman" only adds to the lore. But don't let that diminish the actual on field play. And he played against some excellent DEs that year as well.
If it weren't for his tragic knee injuries he could have gone down as one of the best tackles we've ever had.

That is all I get from uga fans.
But there were 7 tackles getting acknowledged for all-conference post season. Sturdivant wasn't one of them.
Freshmen make mistakes. Sturdivant made his share of them, too.

He wasn't as high as I remembered. I thought he was a high 4 star (0.9400). He was a mid 4 star (0.9108).

We can all thank God you're not in charge of evaluating HS talent for UGA.Neither Glenn or Thomas started as a freashman LT and to call them "heads and shoulders"
better is delusional.

he learned some of Sabans shady recruiting tactics. all it takes is a willing car dealership.

sorry but this is just ignorant. Justin Fields will have a shot at starting NEXT YEAR at Georgia. YES, Jake Fromm is playing very well within the parameters of Georgia's defense this year, but he is not being asked to do too much. COMPEITION.
Kirby was with Nick Saban and his #1 assistant for what, 8 years. Saban is "two-three deep" at every position year-in and year-out. Kirby was Saint Nick's #1 recruiter.
There is better high school talent in Georgia than any state in the nation not named Florida, Texas and California - and UGA is the only complete big-time University in the state.
This ain't hard folks. UGA has underachieved for 25/30 years because they haven't had the right head man running things - also, boosters got fed up w/ McGarity and past ADs - Kirby has ALL THE POWER in Athens - just like Nick in Alabama.
It's on - get used to it.

Well. Cordy Glenn started at both left guard and left tackle in his freshman season (2008). 2008 had a lot of injuries on the OL. Glenn went from LT to LG and back to LT his senior season
Thomas started at RT every game this season with a 2nd team all American Isaiah wynn at left tackle.
But why let facts get in the way of an assessment.

I can't say I'm not happy to see another program get heat from the mouth breathers on the this board for the phantom "shady shite going on" in recruiting tactics.
They can only reduce good hard work recruiting and talent evaluation that results in top shelf classes to cheating on a massive scale. They think the REC "machine" has filtered over to Gawga.

What you have here was/is "the Perfect Storm" for Georgia. Since UGA has always managed to sabotage itself when about to catapult to the upper echelon - somehow losing to UF when we had a better team on paper many times in Richt era - and then losing a couple of big games to Bama - once w/ Stafford(blowout) and once in SECCG when the win was their for the taking - the narrative for UGA just being an "above average" program has taken hold nationally and among our closest rivals.
Mark Richt was a very good coach and a decent recruiter - truth is, he never was willing to be RELENTLESS in recruiting the way Saban and Urban were.....Kirby is RELENTLESS - he doesn't stop when he has a "top 10" class - he is like Saban, he wants the best talent and he wants depth - the first thing Kirby said when he took the GEORGIA job was that UGA was a team with no depth.
As others have pointed out, the state of Georgia is #4 in the country in HS football and #1 per capita - for those UT fans, that means the best ratio of 4-5 stars per state population.
Even with successes of Richt, Georgia has underachieved for decades across many coaches. I know this is going to frustrate other SEC teams, even Bama - as you think it is your birthright for GEORGIA to be underachievers.
Well, that time is over. There is a new sheriff in town, he came to dominate the SEC and College Football - and his name is KIRBY SMART.

UGA recruits Florida and the Carolinas well. Todd Gurley, AJ Green, Keith Marshall, Zamir white etc all from the Carolinas. Then Deandre Baker, John Theus, Sony Michel, Isaiah Mckenzie, etc from Florida. Wyatt was a Georgia boy we signed last year that had to go to Juco. UT is a dumpster fire. Easy choice for Cade Mays. Luke Ford wants to play with Fields

The luck ain't gonna stop anytime soon.
I saw Fromm play in high school. I was expecting UGA to suck in 2017 but the moment Eason went down I jumped up and said the Kirby is one lucky SOB. Fromm can drive an offense.
I hate to say it but Eason would have been a disaster.

What the hell do you base this assumption upon? That 2002 team had to go through the East when it was still in its prime. That 2002 IMO would have beat this team.
Posted on 12/27/17 at 6:20 pm to topcat88
The east was weak in 2002. Despite that, We lost to uf, barely hung on vs ut, and needed a miracle play and goal line fumble to beat sc.
Posted on 12/27/17 at 6:35 pm to topcat88
Are you getting 2002 mixed up with 2012? That East was quietly very good in the top 4, 3 teams finished top 10, and a good version of Vanderbilt.

His former head coach got him a good deal on the same one he has with the devil!

Kirby is turning out to be a lavish hire for UGA. Im personally more interested in seeing if he can titles. It will be good for the conference and CFB if another team from the sec other than Bama win it all.
