Fair but UGA has kids committed from NC, SC, TN, OH, FL, KS, and Oklahoma. It’s not like you’re just locking down Georgia and calling it a day. They’re pulling kids from Miami, which is a good 10+ hours from Athens.

Uga has always done this. Are you new to college football?

I'm not angry, you were just incorrect and it needed to be pointed out. Nothing to apologize for.

Athens>than any other college town in America

CKS learned from one of the top 5 CFB coaches to ever do it

He was arguably the BEST assistant coach recruiter in CFB his last 5-7 years with the bammers

He did a bang up job of picking his assistants, who could coach and recruit at an elite level

Georgia is absolutely LOADED with elite HAS talent EVERY year

He is Kang Kirby, 'nuff said!!

And what kind of deal did he get? 10 years or 20 before the devil comes calling?

Monster recruiting class, wins the SEC, and in the CFB playoffs in his second year? Last year’s recruiting class for UGA wasn’t too shabby either. What the hell is going on in Athens?

Is this some Ole Miss type magic or is it legit? That recruiting class is just ridiculous.

Also, while I'm happy for Richt as he's a good coach and a better person, his Miami team was the epitome of everything that pissed off Georgia fans while he was here. Constantly played down to competition, lost a random game they had absolutely no business losing, and to top it off, Richt pulled his starting quarterback in the fourth quarter of a must win game for no reason. Love the guy but he just finds ways to lose games he shouldn't lose.

As for his recruiting at Miami, he has a good class but if you look deeper into it it is very much like his classes at Georgia that never got us over the hump. A ton of skill position players yet very weak on the lines of scrimmage. The main difference in Georgia's recruiting and play on the field has been an increased focus on the offensive and defensive lines.

You pretty much nailed my sentiment.

He's a shape-shifter. That pic is Ol'Scratch as he transforms into his Saban character

He looks a lot like Nick, he's the owner (or former owner) of Rama Jama's restaurant right next to Bryant Denny Stadium. Really nice guy, they serve a fine breakfast & cheeseburger/shakes are fantastic!

Mark couldn't manage his roster. His players might of liked him but they had zero fear of him. The arrest record from his days speaks volumes.

One of UGA's best players got popped for yet another drug offense hours after winning the SEC with a playoff berth looming. It is the second player to enter drug rehab since Kirby's tenure began.

Ledbetter, Rochester, Stanley, Brini, Patrick, Rivers, Clay, Holyfield, Briscoe etc...

I'm pretty sure UGA leads the SEC in football related arrests since Kirby took over.

They are killing it on the field and even more so in recruiting but not for the reasons you suggest.

We finally got a coach who can get the program to the level it should be at considering the resources of the school and the amount of in state talent to pull from.
In Mark Richts 2nd year, he went 13-1 with an SEC title and finished #3 in the nation..........

So, unless Kirby wins on new years, Richt did better in his 2nd year

Richt wasn’t fired for his work from 2001-2007..

I am simply saying it is a little early to say Kirby "sold his soul".

Richt was as good, or actually better in his first two years at UGA

Nope. This team was much more dominant than that one

Eh, I'm not so sure.

Both teams lost 1 regular season game (richt's was to a mediocre UF we had no business losing to, Kirby's was to a team that was rnaked as high as 2nd and won their division). Both won the SEC. Both "made the playoffs" (playoffs weren't around in 2002, but UGA quite obviously would have made the playoffs in 02, they did made the Sugar Bowl). So as of now they're roughly equivalent but 2017 gets the nod based on strength of loss and quality of wins.

What's really worth noting is the bowl opponent. 2017 UGA is playing a 1-loss, 2nd ranked oklahoma with a heisman winner. 2002 UGA played a 4 loss, 16th rnaked FSU whose starting QB was suspended and had to essentially play a WR at QB.

So even if we do lose to OU, I definitely wouldn't make that the deciding factor on which season is better. In fact I'd go ahead and say that '17 season was more accomplished than 02 regardless of what happens in the rose bowl.

Depends on if we win Jan 1. But in regards to recruiting, Richt was never quite this good. This UGA class is among the top 10, point wise, in 24/7 ranking history. Bama however has gotten 6 classes, recently, as good or better so it will take a while to catch them in talent, if ever.

Because you are a UGA fan and you want to be behind your current coach, and not your former one

But any objective fan from another team, will say
13-1 #3 ranked SEC and Sugar bowl champs are better that 12-2 #4or5 ranked SEC champs and rose bowl losers

It is very close though. However, the point remains, it is far to early for this thread considering the instant success Richt had as well

Maybe, UGA did have the #3 ranked class in 2002 though

Sugar Bowl that year was as meaningful as the Holiday Bowl..meant nothing.

Next year let’s compare O’s first two years to Les Miles’ first two years. Let’s see if you remain consistent in your opinion.

that has literally nothing to do with anything. I am still one of the more ardent richt supporters out here.

And I get what you're saying, but I don't think this can be ignored:

eta: also your phrasing was richt "did better" in 02, not "the 02 team had a more successful season". If the latter it'd be hard to argue otherwise. But on the issue of who "did better", comparing the 2 team's lone loss and the quality of competition in the bowl game it's not even remotely close.
