And what kind of deal did he get? 10 years or 20 before the devil comes calling?

Monster recruiting class, wins the SEC, and in the CFB playoffs in his second year? Last year’s recruiting class for UGA wasn’t too shabby either. What the hell is going on in Athens?

Is this some Ole Miss type magic or is it legit? That recruiting class is just ridiculous.

We finally got a coach who can get the program to the level it should be at considering the resources of the school and the amount of in state talent to pull from.

The question, is the monster awakening or has the monster awakened?

I think Richt doing work down at Miami is proving he wasn’t a bad coach that inherited a great program like a lot of people pitched. He’s winning and recruiting well at Miami.

Georgia would have won the East this year with Gene Chizik coaching. It was just terrible this year, so I can understand UGA winning as much as they did, but the recruiting is ridiculous. How does Georgia get 3 5* QBs 3 years in a row? How does a 5* QB come in with a true freshman starting? Kirby was recruiting well st Bama but some of what’s going on doesn’t make rational sense.

Athens is gods country. Uga are champions. Chaney is a wizard with 5 star qbs who grew up uga fans. Sam Pittman is a wizard with badass OL. Uga always has badass running backs. What's so hard to understand?

Never said Richt was a bad coach. As for recruiting, Kirby hired a great staff of recruiters (will be interesting to see how he replaces them once they start getting poached) and has sold the in state kids on staying home and winning a championship in Georgia. If you're implying that we're cheating in some form or fashion then I don't know what to tell you. I guess it's possible but I doubt we're doing anything different than every other school.

Georgia has always had great in-State talent but you’ve always had Alabama, Auburn, and Clemson dipping in to steal some recruits. Seems like that isn’t happening under Kirby as much. But why are players that could start at Auburn or Clemson going to UGA to sit for a couple years?

Also, while I'm happy for Richt as he's a good coach and a better person, his Miami team was the epitome of everything that pissed off Georgia fans while he was here. Constantly played down to competition, lost a random game they had absolutely no business losing, and to top it off, Richt pulled his starting quarterback in the fourth quarter of a must win game for no reason. Love the guy but he just finds ways to lose games he shouldn't lose.

As for his recruiting at Miami, he has a good class but if you look deeper into it it is very much like his classes at Georgia that never got us over the hump. A ton of skill position players yet very weak on the lines of scrimmage. The main difference in Georgia's recruiting and play on the field has been an increased focus on the offensive and defensive lines.

Because Kirby is a really good recruiter who is selling his vision for the program.

Justin fields would start at Clemson after redshirting a year but he’s gonna go sit behind a true freshman at UGA for 3?

Try again. Trevor Lawrence, a 5 star qb from the state of ga, picked Clemson over uga. Clemson didn't even try to get fields because of him.

People had a fundamental misunderstanding of why Kirby was hired in the first place. UGA's talent level fell off toward the end of the Richt years, and Kirby is the ideal person to fix that problem. It wasn't about any kind of huge shift in gameday operations.

Former UGA all-conference player, hugely successful coordinator who recruited Georgia for UA, knew how the Alabama recruiting machine worked, dad was a legendary HS coach in the state, generally likable guy, etc. There is no one more equipped to recruit football players in Georgia than Kirby Smart.

Right now, it's basically the "if you win a title at Georgia, you'll never have to buy a beer the rest of your life" pitch.

Kirby is going to do really well at UGA. You should accept that now and avoid the rush. The talent in the state of Georgia along with great coaching (staff as well) will find the Dawgs in the hunt every year going forward. Kirby's main challenge is bringing discipline to those 85 on scholly. You can't save them all but you got to save 95% of them.

Most UGA fans would agree. Some hated him and can't compliment him to save their lives, though.

Could Gene have won the SEC? maybe. He did win a Natty.

Check out the past years of recruiting at Georgia. Consistently in the top 7 or so. Yes, we are recruiting better, but it's not like we went from #20 classes to #1. Richt had 2-3 top 5 classes.

Mark couldn't manage his roster. His players might of liked him but they had zero fear of him. The arrest record from his days speaks volumes.
