Saban did NOT leave Bama in good shape. He left them with a roster built for the bagman system not this new era. That's why he quit. He knew he couldn’t keep his own house in order under NIL and the portal.

Deboer is in a no win situation as is Kirby. Kings of the old are often not Kings of the new. Those 2 fanbases will not take kindly to 2-4 losses when they are use to being undefeated and automatically being placed in the Final Four. Look at UGA last season. They had a solid season but their fanbase is less than thrilled. Another 2 seasons like that and they’ll start getting loud about it. Sure, they both signed top recruiting classes. They better use them now because half will be gone to the portal soon when they sit the pine for the first time since they were 5.

Alabama in 03 and 04 was dreadful and had many awful losses and we were all alive for those

You're an idiot.

There hasn't been a drop off in talent at Alabama. Saban was still pulling in top recruiting classes.

What dropped off was development and the number of elite players. Players are actually getting paid now, so they no longer care about getting developed to make the NFL one day.

When players started to only care about getting paid rather than being developed, Saban said frick it and retired.

As for your final paragraph I can only assume you've been a college football fan for less than 10 years. A coach is more likely to retire at Alabama than they are to be fired for their on the field performance. They tend to leave on their own if they realize they can't handle the expectations.

I've been an Alabama fan since Bear was the HC and I've seen it all. I'm more worried about the game itself than I am Alabama.

I think you mean 2000 when Alabama started the season ranked #3 and then finished the season with a total of 3 wins and 8 losses.

2003 wasn't great, but look at what happened coming in to that season. 2004 was improvement and 2005 was a great season until the Prothro injury. Still finished the season #8.

I don't see any of the troubles that lead to those seasons going on right now.

"half will be gone"

Uh, do the math genius. That doesn't just apply to the powerhouse programs, it applies to everyone. So, if UGA signs ten 4 star players and five 5 star players in a class, we still end up keeping a bunch of elite players. If a lesser school like Tech or Auburn signs only four or five 4 star players and maybe....MAYBE one or two 5 star players, when the elite players in their class transfer away, they are left with NOBODY! That's why the UGAs and Bamas of the world will keep on winning championships and everyone else will be scrounging to win the Citrus and Gator bowls.

If they don't make the playoffs again, he'll be gone after this season.

I'm thinking they're going to go on the cheap for now and appoint from within.

You both lost to Vanderbilt.

You are both dumpster fires.

And Bama doesn’t* educate their students on how to speak eloquent English. Before, during, and after they started taking a bunch of out of state students in hopes of improving their academic standard, which apparently has occurred to no avail. Look it up.

BAMA has a higher winning percentage in BR than LSU. Look it up.

What Auburn fans should be worried about is what happens if Freeze fails to win 8 games this season. If he goes 7-5, or worse, then he will have an overall losing record 3 years into the Auburn job. How long will Auburn tolerate all the losing before trying another coach?

Short of a scandal, Deboer will get at least three seasons.

It looks tough because year 1 he lost to 6 loss Vanderbilt, 3 loss Tennessee, 7 loss Oklahoma, and 5 loss Michigan.

The Year 2 road slate is:
@ FSU
@ Georgia
@ Missouri
@ South Carolina
@ Auburn

The only reason Freeze isn't on a hot seat is because au can't afford another buyout.
