“The University of Missouri's "Tigers" nickname originates from a Civil War militia, the "Fighting Tigers of Columbia," formed by local men to defend their town from Confederate guerrillas, especially notorious bands led by figures like Bill Anderson”
I agree just as much as the best guy about how silly it is for UT and OU to be in the SEC.
But how the hell did Missouri snake their way in??? frick out of here with that…

I'd have to agree.
Auburn needs to just change their name to War Eagle. Should have been done years ago.
Missouri who cares
LSU yes ghetto and sewage swamps but they are the real tigers and actually have a cool story behind it.

During the Civil War, the confederate troops from Louisiana wore uniforms that were colored like Mardi Gras colors, purple and gold which we represent today
Why would they wear colors displaying an embodiment of Alabama history ?
Oh oh...I had to web-search ...now I see.
1703: The first organized Mardi Gras in the United States was held in Mobile, Alabama, then the capital of French Louisiana.

rolltideroyalty - you certainly fit the bill.
Auburn - Auburn University was chartered in 1856 as the East Alabama Male College,
LSU- Louisiana State University (LSU) was established by the Louisiana General Assembly in 1853 and officially opened on January 2, 1860, near Pineville, Louisiana, as the Louisiana State Seminary of Learning and Military Academy.
Missouri- The University of Missouri, was founded in 1839, making it the first public university west of the Mississippi River, established by an act of the Missouri legislature on February 11th of that year in Columbia, Missouri.

Mizzu is a transplant, so they don’t count.
Auburn is a founding member of the SEC and first fielded a team, which they named the Tigers, in 1892.
LSU is also a founding member of the SEC and first fielded a team, which they named the Tigers, in 1896.
So, the oldest (by four years) and original “Tigers” in the SEC are the Auburn Tigers.

Auburn adopted the Tiger mascot in 1892, Mizzou 1890 and LSU 1896.

They could have at least been creative and used the French version. Imagine playing the LSU Tigres.

So Mizzou would win, except their namesake unit was on the union side of the conflict. So they get LAST claim in the SEC.
A true American Patriot right there. 4th of July must be a confusing holiday for many of you.
