These are just my opinions:

Alabama- Coach Bryant
Arkansas- Lou Holtz
Auburn- John Heisman
Florida- Steve Spurrier
Georgia- Vince Dooley
Kentucky- Coach Bryant
LSU- Nick Saban
Ole Miss- Johnny Vaught
Mississippi State- Bernie Bierman (Miss State has actually had a lot of great coaches come through)
Missouri- Dan Devine
South Carolina- Steve Spurrier
Tennessee- Gen. Neyland
Texas A&M- Coach Bryant
Vanderbilt- Red Sanders

(Off-season: brutal but certain)

That's the purpose of the thread... Could've just said :

Kentucky: Bryant
aTm: Bryant
Alabama: Bryant
LSU: Saban

Could've just left the rest of the teams off

Les miles is probably better than Saban was here. Obviously Saban is better at Bama than Miles will ever be here, but that's not the question.

Les Miles will go down, without question, as the best coach in LSU history. He has the consistency Cholly Mac had, along with the Saban/Dietzel championship(s). He'll be there for many more years IMO

Its not even a probable. Les is definitely better at LSU than Saban was. I agree with what you said about Saban at Bama though.

His winning percentage is better, and sure we have had some dumb losses but it isn't to the type of a UAB loss.

The only other guy I could say for LSU would be Chollie Mac

As important as the Bear is to Bama football history and lore, it's hard to say that Saban is not a better football coach. Even though it's not yet the kind of sustained success that Coach Bryant had, I believe it's harder to win championships now than it was then. And, I believe that as long as Saban is there Bama will have the same or better success that it enjoyed under the Bear.

ETA: As far as CNS vs. CLM at LSU; it depends on how the question is supposed to be answered. CNS is the best coach to ever lead LSU football. However, CLM has been the best LSU football coach.
Does that make sense?

Steve Spurrier has the most wins but, as it stands right now Jim Carlin was probably our best coach. A case could be made even for Paul Dietzel or Rex Enright or Joe Morrison considering that they all made valiant efforts at conquering our demons. And Lou Holtz did what he did best, brought us out of the pits of despair. Lou actually left hope for Steve Spurrier.

By the time Spurrier leaves though, he will be our best all time.

I don't mean best tenure at your school. For instance, Spurrier could've never coached a game at South Carolina but he'd still be the best coach to ever coach there (IMO)

I've heard many coaches and players from his era say that Cholly Mac was the best teacher of the game of football that they ever experienced

So since I view that as really one of the main cogs of coaching he's my choice

Old people always say shite like this, doesn't make it true.

"Pudding used to taste like velvet and it only cost two cents."

"Rocky Marciano was the greatest boxer ever, would have beat Ali in the first round."

"Jerry West would have run circles around your Michael Jordan."

I figured that when you put Heisman for AU. He probably did more to revolutionize college football than anyone in the history of the game and was a great at Georgia Tech and winner at AU.

So, you can't really argue Heisman considering he did coach AU for 5 years.

I'm sure I am in the minority (and biased), but I think Pat Dye is one of the greatest college coaches ever along with Bowden, Bear, Spurrier, Saban. Had the Ramsey stuff not happened, Dye would have been at AU another decade and the 90's would have been a lot different in the SEC. What Dye did at AU is as impressive at what Saban has done at Bama IMO. And Dye was even more a hardass than Saban and took an AU program that was really pitiful to the top of the SEC for many years.
