you don't get coach of the year when you have nothing but 5 star players!

I've said this before, but IMO, a coach of the year shouldn't just go to the team that happened to end up with a better record than everyone predicted. Why did said coach have such low expectations in the first place?
To me, it should go to the coach who's been able to overcome adversity, injuries, and other intangibles to help his team.
Quite possibly with this logic, I'd probably select Jeremy Pruitt, based solely on his ability to put up with Phil Fulmer.

I would agree. Give it to Dan Mullen for not murdering Frank's in his sleep

Recruiting is a part of coaching.

Did those 5 stars just magically appear on the roster? Do they call their own plays?

What a lazy fvcking narrative.

I thought they were only 5 stars because they committed to Bama

If that's the criteria, why not just award it to the coach that leaves Atlanta victorious ?

Stoops or Mullen.
Saban is obviously the best in the league but you’ve got to expect Bama to be dominant at this point. Stoops and Mullen have done a great job. I also think O should get serious consideration.
At this point I’d say Mullen narrowly edges Stoops and O. He’s taken a really shitty team a long way this season. They’ve improved tremendously as the season has progressed and that’s a sign of a good coach.
Stoops would have won if he hadn’t shot the bed against UT.
Hats off to O though. He’s surprised me. If he can get a real OC and a good recruiting class in this year they’re going to be formidable.

Returned all the suspended talent. Several, including Phil Steele, saw you as national dark horses. I had you second, so I expected you to be much better with the talent he was working with. I realize you aren't at Urban Meyer talent level, but neither is your record or play on the field.

Florida has done exactly what experts expected them to do this year, perhaps a little less for some but all in all what was expected.

In my opinion, if you don't get your team to Atlanta you should not be coach of the year.
It's about what you did with the talent level you have. Stoops did the most with the least. Kirby was not overwhelming with the talent UGA has.

UK hasn't won in Neyland since 1984. He's in the running for COY not miracle man.

You should if your team plays like it's loaded with 5*s all year. It's also matters what decisions you make during games. If you make dumb decisions but your team overcomes it with talent then it's still not good coaching.

I don't think anyone inherited less than Pruitt. He's also the only one who is a first time HC. If he makes a bowl with the lack of talent and schedule we've had (top 5 in SOS) it's hard to argue against him.

I don't think average fans realize what a miracle it was just to get this team to 5 wins. Auburn, Mizzou, and UK all had linebackers and/or TEs bigger than our OL.

That said, I wouldn't argue against Stoops either and think Odom deserves mention.
