Who is more likely to win their division in 2018, UGA or Bama?

Most here probably think Bama is the better team, and for good reason.

But most probably think the East is weaker division, and for good reason.

Seems that there are more teams capable of rising up to Bama's level in the West than teams rising up to UGA's level in the East.

Alabama certainly has a long track record of showing they are not gonna take much of a step back if one at all.

We don't know that about UGA, but the talent on UGA's roster right now is miles above anyone else in the East and the coaching appears to match it.

Alabama has to replace nearly everyone in their secondary. Tua may also experience some growing pains in his first time as a starter. A lot of people forget that he threw a very bad pick, nearly threw another one in the EZ that would've killed a scoring drive and took a humongous sack right before spotting a wide open receiver on a busted coverage. The talent can't be denied, but Saban prefers mistake free football over "wowza" plays. It would not be implausible to see Bama play LSU in one of those slobber knocker defensive games, where one mistake sets up a hard to come by TD.

Georgia has a lot of senior leadership to replace. While there appears to be some proven athletic talent to do it, you never know if those guys have the ability to go from mentee to mentor for the younger kids.

Could go both ways. Alabama because they get Auburn in T-Town. UGA because the East is shite. Tough decision, but UGA has the easier path.

With this being the Auburn at home year and since our Eastern Division games are home vs Mizzou and @ Tennessee I'd go Alabama.

Have you seen Bama's schedule? One of the easiest schedules Bama has had under Saban.

Have you seen Georgia's? Seriously, who would Alabama get from the East that would really scare you outside of UGA?

Remember, we're not asking will UGA have a better record than Bama. We're asking which team is more of a lock to win their division.

We haven't lost a game to a team from the East in since South Carolina in 2010. So, nobody.

The biggest thing is we play Auburn at home and they have to play @ Bama/@ UGA. Add to that LSU playing UGA and already probably being a tad weaker, our other road games being Ole Miss/Arkansas/Tennessee.......and we'd have to disappoint pretty bad/have somebody else go undefeated to not win the West this year.

Georgia has an easier path probably but our thorn, auburn, is in ttown so that's gonna be immeasurably easier.

I look for a repeat of 2009 when both teams showed up undefeated and play the de facto national championship. After we beat Florida in 09 we knew then we were national champs. Texas was a mere formality. Probably be the same this year. If the playoff had existed in 09 we would have rematched florida as it should have been. It was a shame florida was left out of the BCS title game but that was the system then. If both UGA and Bama enter undefeated it may just be round one in the SECCG.

So what you’re saying is, Georgia has a better chance to win the east, than Bama does to win the west. If you don’t agree you’re wrong. Why not just say what you mean rather than critic anyone who says Bama?

I think Georgia has some tricky games with this being their first year really being one of the "hunted" teams.

- @ South Carolina week 2 will be tough
- @ Missouri could be tricky, or they could bulldoze them
- @ LSU will not be easy

Then, throw in Florida in Jax and Auburn and there are some potholes if things don't all come together.

I still think they are the clear favorite to win the division, but I could see them showing up in Atlanta at 10-2.

Won't be upset if we take a slight step back but I honestly think we will be improved even with the losses at TB and LB.

The overall roster is improved and we are freaking loaded at TB, have an experienced qb, and we are a defensive minded coaching staff with lots of 4/5 star talent to coach up.

If we get past LSU undefeated, it will come down to the seccg for the playoffs.

Good points about LSU and Auburn both having to play UGA. Auburn had to play them last year as well though and still managed to win the West.

I will say this about the East. SC is the only team that I think has a chance. Their schedule is quite easy. pulling A&M and Ole Miss from the West. If they were to somehow find a way to beat us in Columbia, it is possible they could finish the rest of the SEC off with zero or one loss.

It's still not probable though. Talent wise, they wouldn't be superior to half the teams on that schedule and Will still has never found any kind of magic with his offensive staff and players.

I still think the probability of Auburn or LSU sneaking up like last year is more likely than UGA falling back to 2015 and 2016 levels. And I just can't see anyone in the East other than UGA playing at a UGA, Alabama, Auburn 2017 level in 2018.

But Auburn played Alabama and Georgia at home last year. This year they have to play them both on the road. Huge difference.

Auburn vs Alabama/Georgia at JHS since 2008
vs Georgia : 3-3
vs Alabama : 2-3
Total : 5-6

Auburn vs Alabama/Georgia on the road since 2008
@ Georgia : 0-4
@ Alabama : 1-4
Total : 1-8

Don't really have a problem with it, just like the debate. Most of the Bama guys on here are only commenting on Bama though, and not saying why they think UGA would not have as good of a chance. Since we're asking which of two things is more probable, a good argument would address both.

Over the past 10 years, Bama is 4-1 v. AU at home, 3-2 @ AU. Isn't UGA very similar?
Not such a "huge difference", IMO.

Auburn is 1-8 @ UGA/Bama since 2008 with the sole win being the Camback. 5-6 at Jordan Hare.

The only argument is in Georgia fans heads, because for some reason you guys taste a little bit of success and all of a sudden everyone is supposed to put your program in the same conversation with Bama? Why don’t you try beating Florida two years in a row first? We get it you think Kirby is the 2nd coming and you are just going to reload your entire roster and that may be the case, but can everyone else at least see it first? We kinda would like too see how it plays out before we just let you guys win the next 15 national titles.

Not gonna lie, that Missouri game might be a little scary. That offense shouldn’t be overlooked.

Historically speaking, Georgia has had some of their biggest wins in the series on the Plains and Auburn has had some of their biggest in Athens.

Auburn coaching staff threw some of their beverages on Larry after the 1982 win to put us in the Sugar Bowl. Auburn returned the favor the next year in Athens, and eventually winning the SEC.

We won at JH in 2002 to clinch the East and 2006 against a top 10 team (and we had just lost to Vandy and UK and were going nowhere). As a whole, the home field advantage has meant very little. It was an intimidating place last year though.

We're 3-3 vs. Auburn at JH since 2007, but we just happened to play their 3 best teams their during that time period and only had one game where our team was of the same quality.

We're 5-0 in Athens. Games where the teams were pretty evenly matched going in were 2007, 2009 and 2014. 2016 was a big upset win. 2011 we were a good bit better.

Overall, both UGA and Bama have owned Auburn the last decade. Could be even worse if not for the back to back miracles of 2013.

They are just so bad defensively though, especially in their secondary. We were pretty much being careful in our passing game with Jake up until that point and still were after it. He looked like Tom Brady in that game though.

I don't know how much they will have improved on that side of the ball this offseason, but it's gonna take a lot for them to have a shot. They can definitely throw the ball around though and run it better than you think.

This sounds more like jealousy than actual debate of the topic. Do you think UF has a legit shot at the East this year? Maybe they do. What ya got?
