I’m sure folks will throw out all different stats to make their case but by the time the season is over it will be Bama. Wash, rinse, repeat.

What I've learned ITT - no one on here knows jack about their team. They just think they're the best because it's their team.

Athlon Says: “Auburn will likely challenge Clemson for the nation’s most dominant defensive front thanks to the return of starters Derrick Brown, Dontavius Russell and Marlon Davidson, all of whom are expected to be NFL Draft picks when their college careers are over.

Probably so. I'm not convinced ours is really the best. I just thought with 40 something days left until football, we should talk about, you know, actual football.

Jeff "the woman beater" Simmons absolutely wrecked LSU last year. Dude seemed unblockable. He's only going to get better.

I think ours is the best.

Mississippi State

Defensive End: Montez Sweat

2017 Stats: 48 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks

Sweat tied for the league lead in sacks last year and you have to think he will improve this year. He was an All-SEC selection last year and a preseason All-American this year.

Nose Tackle: Jeffery Simmons

2017 Stats: 60 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 5 sacks

Like you said, Simmons will have to be double teamed. He was also an All-SEC selection last year and preseason All-American this year.

Defensive Tackle: Cory Thomas

2017 Stats: 12 tackles

Redshirt Senior who has had limited playing time (5 games last year).

Defensive Tackle: Braxton Hoyett

2017 Stats: 21 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks (11 games)

Defensive End: Gerri Green

2017 Stats (At Linebacker): 38 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 5 sacks

Gerri Green has been at linebacker at State, but with Shoop running a 4-2-5 scheme, he has moved to defensive end. The good thing about that is that it is his natural position. He has talent!

Defensive End: Chauncey Rivers

Had to sit out last year because he was academically ineligible, but experts say he is better than Sweat and nearly as good as Simmons.

That's 4 potential draft picks on the defensive line. The depth we have there is stunning.

Linebacker: Leo Lewis

Leo has had so many things going on off the field here at State that it has been a distraction. This year, he can focus on football and I expect him to have his best year yet.

Linebacker: Erroll Thompson

Thompson has a high ceiling with lots of talent. He had a big year at the end of the year last year and we can expect him to continue that this year.

Willie Gay is also extremely talented at Linebacker.

Sweat, Simmons, Green, and Rivers will all be blocked, leaving gaps for Lewis, Thompson, etc. to go through.

Don't know about this year but I can't remember the last time Alabama didn't lead the SEC in Total D, Rushing D, and Scoring D. Maybe a couple years in the last decade where the Passing D numbers slipped.

Our starters along the front 7 will be very good; depth is a pretty big question mark though...

Surprised no one outside of LSU fans think this. LSU's front 7 will be filthy. The depth is here this year. Potentially the best Linebacker in the country. LSU is right up there with the best of them.

2014

Figured 2014 might be it. This made me go back and look and a quick look of these three categories (rushing, total, scoring D) over the last decade shows the following times Alabama didn't lead the SEC:

*2008 - didn't lead in scoring (led in the other two categories)
2009 - led in all
*2010 - didn't lead in rushing (led in the other two categories)
2011 - led in all
2012 - led in all
2013 - led in all
*2014 - didn't lead in scoring, total (led in rushing)
2015 - led in all
2016 - led in all
2017 - led in all

Alabama will probably have the best front 7 again this year - at least statistically.
