Then proceeded to lose control of the entire team and went 0'fer in the SEC two years later in 2012. He deserved to be fires.

ETA: Bill Curry - the only reason he was fired at Alabama was losing to Auburn 3 years in a row.

How in the world did Orgeron get the LSU job after what a disaster he was at Ole Miss?

Because Joe, and he talked like them.

With that being said, although I think Richt's firing was stupid

As much as I hate Georgia and want to blame them -- I totally understand why they had to make a change. McElwain won the East twice in a row with essentially was a skeleton crew offense -- 1 QB (Make that zero Quarterbacks since Treon Harris is now a Wide Receiver) after PEDs, six offensive linemen on scholarship, no kicker, and one upperclassman as a RB year one.

If McElwain can take abysmal offensive recruiting and somehow fail his way to the SEC Championship in one year, Richt should have absolutely no problem doing the same after being the HC after what, 15 years? Georgia made the right move, and I felt like they had even when he was fired and not after last year.

Laugh if you must, but Ron Zook could’ve been a pretty good HC for Florida if given more than three years. I believe he was 24-15, but Spurrier had pretty much quit recruiting in 2000-01 so Zook had to re-stock the roster. His players won the NC for UF in 2006.

He just had incredibly bad luck as a HC.

During his time at Florida, Zook did have some notable accomplishments. He handed both the 2002 Georgia Bulldogs and 2003 LSU Tigers their only loss of the year. His Gators defeated three highly ranked teams in succession in 2003, all away from home (LSU, Arkansas and Georgia). In his final game he defeated the Florida State Seminoles at Tallahassee, something Steve Spurrier never did. This victory occurred on the night FSU dedicated Bobby Bowden Field, leading Gator fans to refer to it as Ron Zook Field.

Thanks for the memories, Zooker.

Mark Richt? He had Georgia playing at a high level for a decade plus

His recruiting had gone in the toilet from '10 to '13...thank God Pruitt stepped up our classes in '14 and '15 or Kirby would be looking at huge rebuilding job.

Not sure if he lost his passion or was sick of dealing with the lack of support from the AD and administration but he's seemed to regain his edge at Miami

Actually, if you lay out what happened to Chizik, on paper he does fit

2009 - Takes over team that only won 3 games year before and team was in total shite terms 8-5 season with bowl victory - Recruits one of the top recruiting classes in country

2010 - Undefeated and National Championship to a program that has not won one in 50 years. All this under the most scrutinized program by the NCAA in the history of football. Also did this at a time where his conference was one of the strongest in history

2011 - Loses 40 players from previous year including one of the best players to ever play. Goes 8-5 with bowl win. All 5 loses coming from top 15 teams

2012 = Total shite show

Fired

All of his years were excellent years considering the circumstances other than 2012.

Johnny Majors won 29 games, including 2 SEC titles and a Sugar Bowl, in 3 seasons prior to his overthrow in Knoxville 8 games into the 1992 season. Majors lost 3 straight to Arkansas, Alabama, Carolina - by 9 total points (1 point each to Ark, USC). Majors would have also won out and finished with another 9 win campaign, but he never got the chance.

Pat Dye comes to mind. Of course it was the NCAA who fired him.

Yeah, the change of scenery helped out there for both parties. Sometimes coaches do get burned out at one place.

Nope, Curry quit because he could not handle the pressure. He had an extension sitting on his desk, and decided to leave for Kentucky.

He would have been fired as soon as the academic report came out by the way. Alabama had dropped significantly under his watch. One of the reasons he had been hired was to maintain and raise the academic rating for football.

This. Solich has to got to be one of the most one of the most overrated coaches I've ever seen. It's really not that hard to look at his Nebraska tenure and argue he was winning based on Tim Couch and the Osborne players until the 2002 disaster occurred. And that's not even getting into the problems that having an option offense in the 3rd millennium would pose.

And truthfully his time at Ohio isn't that mesmerizing either. 97-71 overall, 64-40 in the MAC. He's never finished less than 4 losses, won the MAC, or finished ranked. The only time he's even been ranked during the season was 2013, when he had Ohio at #23 for a single week before they went 2-4 the rest of the way.

I was referring to the success they had at the program where they were fired.

Bert was awful at Arkansas. Wisconsin was a different story.

Curry wasn't fired. He just was unpopular among Bama fans and people were generally happy to see him resign.

Mark Richt? He had Georgia playing at a high level for a decade plus. Got fired after winning 10 games in his final year.

It appears to be working out for both parties (so far) but on the surface the whole ordeal looked insane

On the surface maybe, but anybody who watched Georgia that year knew that that team wasn’t anywhere close to competing at the level UGA should expect.

ETA: it was made even worse by starting Bauta (3rd strong QB) against UF. It was a desperate move that pretty clearly indicated that Richt didn’t have the answers.

Funny how Fulmer demise was brought on by Cutcliffes drive to be a HC. If Cutcliffe was happy at OC like Chavis was/is at DC, they'd still be killing it at UT.
