Who are the most successful CFB coaches to ever be fired

I'd go with David Cutcliffe and Jeff Tedford. And Les Miles, as much as it'll piss LSU fans off.
For these purposes I'm referring to coaches who were fired for on field performance. Not somebody like Art Briles who was fired for other reasons.

Les Miles is a legend in his own mind! The word is that he’s delving into acting now....thinks he’s Anthony Hopkins or Marlon Brando....doing movie scenes from Silence of the Lambs and Godfather!
OMG

Phillip Fulmer. That dude won some games.

My immediate reaction is Frank Solich at Nebraska.

Frank Solich, averaged 9.7 wins a years in a very different world than Osbourne had to deal with, and was fired for it

Fulmer was slumping quite a bit at the end.
With that being said, it's was silly to fire Fulmer to hire a guy who had a losing record in the WAC.

Bo Pelini at Nebraska. Dude is a nut case though.

Nebraska never recovered. Still has their last conference title in 1999. But I think Frost is going to be good there.

Agree. He has also done very well at Ohio. Good coach.

Native son coaches tend to do well in the immediate term yes?

Solich was not very good after he ran out of Eric Couch and the other Tom Osborne recruits.
If he were that good then wouldn't he have been able to at least get an Iowa State type job rather than end up at Ohio?
And his record at Ohio is 97-71, not really world beating. I can't recall him ever having a notable upset win over a power conference opponent. He hasn't even won a conference title in 13 years there.

He had one bad year in 2002. And was turning it around in 2003. But didn’t have the chance to see it through.
His tenure at Ohio proves he can build a program.

I still say Auburn should have never fired Tubs when they did.

From Alabama’s perspective they have. But only Bryant long term.
I think Frost is only Nebraska’s third former player to be head coach.

Pretty sure he had a DUI after being fired from Nebraska. Took time off before taking Ohio job. Or he would have landed a larger job.

I said fired for on field reasons.
Hayes was fired for punching a Clemson player.
Edit: I guess punching a player is technically an on the field reason, but by on the field I meant related to wins and losses.
