Which Program Deserved the 1983 National Title?

based on wins and overall resume, the clear choice is Auburn. But the hype around Miami/Nebraska seemed to eliminate which team had the better schedule. Miami only won the title because Nebraska decided to not settle for the tie. Had Nebraska settled for the tie, then the Auburn/Miami debate is moot. In the end, Miami’s blowout loss to Florida was ignored.

Miami's win against Nebraska was really flukey and they played a chickenshit schedule, but I would never say anything nice about Auburn.

We rolled Auburn and would have done the same to Miami

We had our chance to lock that shite up. Texas just whipped our arse, no excuses. We had a second chance to win over voters after Georgia whipped Texas. We shite that bed in the Sugar Bowl.. You won't see me claiming that one.

Blind resume I’d say team on the right deserved at least a share but I don’t like Auburn so frick em

You couldn't even beat #7 Georgia jackass. At least we won against Michigan.

It was a 10-9 game that UT literally gave away when they muffed a punt.

Off Topic - Where'd you get the logo graphics from?

If you have Instagram you can visit the Cfbrevamped page and it’ll have an abundance of them. If not, go to Google Images, type in “college Football revamped,” and click on the Oregon/Ohio State updated graphic page and it’ll take you to their Twitter page. Scroll down a ways and several logos appear. These logos are the same ones currently used on ESPN College Football. They are almost three-dimensional looking.

Flukey? How so? Statistically the game was pretty even. Nebraska was lucky that they recovered 5 of their 6 fumbles and Miami committed 13 penalties.

Miami played 6 teams with a losing record.
Miami only beat 4 teams with a winning record in the regular season.
Auburn played only 2 teams with a losing record.
Auburn beat 8 teams with a winning record in the regular season.
Miami got blown out by 25 to a 9-3-1 Florida squad. Auburn beat UF 28-21.
Auburn’s only loss was by 13 to a 11-1 Texas squad.
Auburn should have been the 1983 National Champion. There is no legitimate argument of putting Miami over them. It’s not even close.

I don’t disagree. The voters were definitely more swayed by what happened in the bowl games than the regular season. Just one more reason we needed to come up with the BCS and eventually the CFP.

That season Auburn played a crazy hard SOS. Miami got their moment on national television by beating Nebraska, yes, but Auburn was more deserving that year.

It’s Auburn, but Miami made a splash with the win against Nebraska. Who would have been crowned had Osborne kicked the XP for the tie?

Auburn beat four top ten teams and had the toughest schedule in the nation at season. The fact Auburn wasn’t awarded at least a share of the national title in 1983 was one of, if not the, most egregious mistakes of that era.
Auburn was named national champion by Billingsley, College Football Researchers Association, and The New York Times, while named co-national champion by both Rothman and Sagarin. In my book, Auburn should claim 1983.

Nebraska was the best team.
Just lost a road game by one point.

Had Nebraska/Miami ended in a tie, Huskers would have won national title with zero losses and a tie (12-0-1). I get why Osborne did what he did, but I would have settled for the tie and still an outright national title, assuming no split with Auburn.
