it's a matter of philosophy, imo. if you look the current system of picking best teams, with the eye test, etc., then I can understand and even applaud the 6 team playoff.
if you want a more pure playoff, with P5 champs getting in, even if they have lost 3 games, then you need 8. this is the one I prefer, but hey, the 6 would be good. Ohio State and Georgian would've gotten in this year, and imo, they would provide better competition to Clemson and alabama than Ok and ND.
we need more. even a 6 means you will probably get 1 2 loss team in every year. which is fine with me, as often they can be one of the top teams in the country.

If you go to a P5 champion gets in, you have to remove the championship game IMO.
In basketball it’s not a big deal because if a huge upset happens, the champion could still draw a low seed and the team with the better season still gets a 1/2 seed.
In this scenario, you could have a 12-1 team left out over that one game.

6 with first 2 games at home field and top 2 get byes
I want best 6 teams in and screw conference champs. This past year a pac 12 team did not deserve to be in and should NOrthwestern have upset OSU it did not deserve to be in.

I have an issue with bringing in UCF in any playoff due to lack of playing enough worthy teams to give UCF a chance to play in the playoff. I would like Missouri to play UCF schedule and then Missouri would more likely get in.

All I know is I’d rather be playing a playoff game in place of the conference championship. It means more and it’s no extra stress on the teams.

If you eliminate the championship game, under the OP's plan, Georgia wouldn't have been playing in either. Notre Dame would have had you SOL.

Not if you include 4 extra teams in the playoffs.

4 is too many...8 semis 5 beatdowns from the 1 2 seeds...ucf beat a top 10 power 5 team first game or 2nd game of regular season

I'm sorry but don't want just any conference champ in in the current system. 3 loss teams have not earned their way. It would devalue the regular season too much.
Also, for non conference games I don't schedule any tough teams nor do I play my starters. I treat them as pre-season games and play my backups. Great intersectional matchups would die because they wouldn't matter.

Yes, because a playoff should be all about goddamn participation awards.
This is the most LSU post ever.

It will be 8 when it happens. 5 conference winners and 3 at large based on cfp ranki g

And when folks see attendance in the first round games looking like attendance at the PAC 12 CCG, and 13-0 SECC vs. 8-5 AACC, you’ll understand that 4 teams was the best way to do it.

8 because everybody plays (I HATE "byes" in tournaments).
