I honestly thought they'd already gone away. Between COVID and muh racist tests I was for sure they were already done away with. Guess not yet.
I was in a meeting a few weeks ago and it was discussed how the importance of the act/sat is diminishing and how gpa is even more important now. So much, that some kids aren’t taking the highest level classes in case they may make a B and bring it down.
As someone who was always a good/lucky test taker I’m glad I am old enough it doesn’t matter to me.

These differences are mostly meaningless

Not sure what this article has to do with tRant or that it's indicative of anything at all.
"provides a side-by-side comparison of SAT scores for the middle 50% of enrolled students"
Most of tRant didn't attend any college, let alone their favorite SEC team. Not to mention, on tRant it's usually the complete bottom rungers in life driving most of the dialogue.

maybe a silly question, but are they mainly just going to look at GPA from now on? I like the idea of having some kind of entrance test be it ACT or SAT, since you can't really fake your way through that. The fact that so many HS seniors these days have like 4.8 GPAs kinda devalues the whole system
Yeah it will be GPA + Demographics. I suppose they actually read the essays now too.
I was really pissed about them changing it up for my class. I didn’t give a shite in HS so I had like a 4.2 GPA when everyone else had a 4.5.
Of course my counselor told me that with my 36 ACT my GPA was enough to get into almost any non-ivy league school. I did end up getting in to all the ones I wanted, but I was deferred for all of them because early action was entirely based on GPA. It pissed me off and created a lot of added stress in my life for a couple months.

I'm assuming it's because there is a direct correlation between poor standardized test scores and those pursuing a gender studies degree.

Yeah everyone knows which AP classes are the easiest. A 4.5 GPA is nothing special these days.

Back in my day, the 4.0 scale only went to 4.0.

I am from the dinosaur era where they actually taught things like reading, writing, and math. You had Latin for 2 - 4 years which taught you words and word roots (still helpful today). You got Classical History, Modern History, and State History. You were taught a broad range of studies which broadened your mind. You had sports coaches who would be in jail for pushing you hard as they could.
Now we have the "everybody gets a ribbon" and classes in useless stuff that will not produce the leaders we will need tomorrow. Say what you will about the Chinese and the Indians but they still value strong education as a cultural value.

I laughed at the implausible premise of the movie Idiocracy... until COVID showed me we were already there.

Most kids only take the ACT now, SAT is kind of a dinosaur.

I still think Wall E and Idiocracy are the future of human civilization, yet we keep heading toward a society where both are plausible.
