No. The competition is much better in the Big East than what they're coming from. I know Patterson gets his teams up for Bowl games, but that's not hard to do when everyone is talking down about your program. I understand it's not a great measuring stick, but I would like to see him prove himself in a better conference before I claim him to be "Saban 2.0".

That's hard to say at this point.

Patterson has been consistent enough for a while that I would feel very comfortable with him. Also, the way he has been successful seems more impressive to me. He has taken regular athletes and won with good defense and a solid offense. To me, winning that way is more impressive than running the spread with kids that can't qualify in major conferences while playing in the worst conference in football sans the Sun Belt.

Either coach would be good, I think. While it may be easier for them to get their teams up for big games with the disrespect factor, they both draw up strong gameplans that have been proven to beat other big name programs and coaches.

It's a real shame, the Mountain West could have really been something this year. Sure it's top heavy, but if that had included Boise, TCU, BYU, Utah, Nevada, Hawaii, Fresno and SDSU? That's a BCS conference, no doubt.

well even if we win this game vs boise yall will see how much better a coach petersen is than richt.

i think patterson is damn good i wish he'd come here but i doubt he would. petersen seems set to stay at boise too especially with his special needs child

Patterson knows defense and he can recruit skilled defensive players. I think if Spurrier retired or Richt doesn't achieve much this season. Both schools will go after him

i think cocks go for holtz lite. if it does come to that i'd liek to see uga pursue petersen, patterson, and mullen to start off. i am shaky on thinking they'd come to georgia idk if they would head to columbia

I certainly hope he doesn't go to Georgia. I doubt he would go to South Carolina.

Ehhhhh, it might be slightly better. I wouldn't say the gap is very wide though if one even exists. TCU, Air Force, BYU, Utah, and San Diego State were all bowl teams last year. That's more than the Big East had.

True, but does it look good on holtz resume if he leaves USF in 2 or 3 yrs?

Wouldn't be a problem. If he leaves, it will be for a (real) BCS progam. Big East programs are still stepping stones.

it would be an amazing hire if he did come here thats for sure. if richt really can't fix it adams and mcgarity both would know they'd need a coach that would really "dazzle" the fan base

Gary Patterson. Just imagine what he could do with actual top tier Texas talent.

Just to add to this, I took a close look this past year. West Monroe's Chucky Hunter committed to TCU. When I was looking at their past recruiting classes I realized that Hunter will be the ONLY 4 star lineman on the team. Just think about that for a minute. Patterson has won all of those games without a single 4 star lineman on either side of the ball.

Idk about either of them, there are three ways to be successful in the SEC
1. Great recruiter with excellent assistants
2. Great X and O guy, with ability to recognize underrated talent
3. Great X and O with great recruiting prowess.
all successful SEC coaches fit into one of these molds.

I would think what I posted would make Patterson fit into this mold.

We took second in the SEC to the national championship team and played in a BCS bowl i would say Petrino has been successful. I'm not promoting him more than any other coach though you name a successful coach and i'll tell you which category they come in.
