re: So does UT get a new AD or a new BB HC first
Posted by bamainaz on 3/18/11 at 7:52 pm
Have to get a new AD first, assuming they fire both Hamilton and Pearl. If you hire the BB coach and then the AD, then the AD will come in with both of the big coaches not being "his guys." AD's are like GMs in the NFL, they like to make their mark and pick their own coaches, and if the coaches are there before they get there then there is a shorter leash. Hiring the coach first takes away the AD's mojo.

I used to not like LSU even a little bit, but old Les has changed my sentiment with his candor, I still want Bama to beat LSU but if LSU does well then I'm almost kind of happy for them.

Making the tourney is ALWAYS better than not making the tourney.
re: Say hypothetically a lockout does cancel an NFL draft

If they can't have contact with the players upon drafting them, will the presentation of the draft be different this year than in previous ones?
re: Which coach would survive the SEC. Gary Patterson or Chris Peterson?

Either coach would be good, I think. While it may be easier for them to get their teams up for big games with the disrespect factor, they both draw up strong gameplans that have been proven to beat other big name programs and coaches.
It's a real shame, the Mountain West could have really been something this year. Sure it's top heavy, but if that had included Boise, TCU, BYU, Utah, Nevada, Hawaii, Fresno and SDSU? That's a BCS conference, no doubt.

With enough luck Bama will make it there at some point in the hopefully not too distant future.
The coaching is there, just missing the talent and shooting ability (which is pretty necessary for a successful basketball team).

That's what they said about Colt McCoy.
re: Top 5 point guards in the SEC.

Yeah, sorry, 94% is great from the FT line, but 34% is not what you would call a good 3 point shooter, and 40% is also not good considering many of those makes are around the basket. Taking a lot of shots doesn't make you a better shooter.
re: If your school played LSU in 2003 AND Alabama in 2009

Bama's, because I'm a Bama homer and it was more recent :nana:
If we're going to judge these teams based on their players' NFL success then we'll have to wait awhile until they've all made it out of college (LSU's players have had 8 years to make noise in the League, Bama still has guys on campus from that team). If we're judging based on their numbers that year it's too close to call, although I will say that while the numbers are pretty even, Bama had the more difficult schedule (10 bowl teams, 6 or 7 ranked teams, 3 or 4 top 10 teams and back to back #1 vs #2 games).

re: Will Saban have to always live in the shadow of the Bear?

Didn't Saban take a pay cut to go to Alabama???
He was being paid $5 mil a year at Miami, and his first contract had him being paid $4 mil by Bama. The Dolphin's owner loved him and had a good relationship with him; he led them to a winning season his first year, and then took the advice of his medical staff to not sign Drew Brees and take Culpepper instead; with no starting QB they went 6-10. The team still improved tremendously over where they were before he got there. He had the full confidence of ownership, if it was ALL about the money he would have stayed where he was instead of taking the pay cut.
Any person who thinks it was about money and not about missing the college game is stupid. He's even said that if the LSU job was available he probably would have gone back to it.
And the Bear would have been down with the hire, he was the right man for the job. Luckily we don't have a "legendary" coach putting his face in every hire, Stallings knows how to keep out of it other than giving recommendations.

I was hoping to get Anderson from UAB too, but that was never going to happen. Then I wanted him when we actually fired Gottfried, but we weren't pulling him from Mizzou either. I think it ended up being better the way it worked out, there are very few coaches that I would trade Grant for.

Why did none of the other past SEC teams that won BCSNC's have to go through all this off the field turmoil??? The world must be against the Fambly and the $Camburglar.

Your Potential 1st Rounders:
Trent Richardson
Courtney Upshaw
Mark Barron
Dont'a Hightower
Dre Kirkpatrick will improve his draft stock by staying an extra year, but if he comes out he won't make the 1st unless he has a breakout season.
Coming Back:
Barrett Jones
Jesse Williams
Robert Lester
Quinton Dial
Nico Johnson
Quinton Dial and Jesse Williams will stay 2 years; the 3-4 does not allow for DL to have the same kind of sexy stats as a 4-3 as they are supposed to fill lanes and allow the LBs to make plays half of the time.
Aaron Douglas will come out early if he starts, but only because he knows he won't be able to hold onto the position because he is physically inferior to Cyrus and Fluker.

Agents trying to get into the combine where there may be unsigned moneymakers?? Oh God, this must have never happened before...

Bama beat AU from the foul line and lost to OM because of the foul line. That's how it works sometimes, if we could shoot with ANY consistency we would bust up these zones that are giving us trouble. The team has come a long way in the last 15 games, beat UF and we're in. I know it's not a guarantee, and the UGA game won't be easy but beat UF and we finish either 13-3 or 12-4 in SEC, win a game in the tourney and I'll feel pretty good about our March Madness chances.

Did USC go away?? Well we don't know yet, time will tell. What we do know is that USC is the only premier football team in the #2 TV market in the country, a market that is 3x the size of Alabama, in the most populous state in the country. They also have little to no competition in the recruiting department in their state, so they don't have to leave LA County to land top classes.
Auburn, on the other hand, shares a state 1/3rd the size of the city USC is in with another premier program, the one who won it all 2 years ago, and must compete in the most cutthroat league as far as recruiting goes, as compared to the laid back Pac 12.
USC is within miles of the coast, with warm weather and beaches and glamour; they have location x3, they are a built-in recruiting machine by default. IN THE EVENT AU was to be sent down that path, they would end up like Bama was last decade because they don't have the same location perks as the USC's and Florida's of the world.
So USC is a terrible comparison, unless Auburn moves its campus to Southern California anytime soon.
