The 1992 Citadel team had one regular season loss. That was to Marshall who won the I-AA championship that year.

The Citadel lost in the playoffs to Youngstown State who lost to Marshall in the championship game.

Marshall was coached by Jim Donnan. Youngstown State was coached by Jim Tressell.

Had SC won that game in '84, it was likely they would have played for the natty.

Arkansas vs The Citadel 1992*

The Citadel is a Military School, but not a service academy.

One AM my freshman year, they had us all on our faces cranking out push-ups. One of the Cadre piped up and said, "If you're not on scholarship or contract, raise your hand" which we tried our best to do. "If you have your hand up. your parents are paying us to do this to you right now...."

To be fair, Army had some pretty successful spans until the 60s and a few after. They had a few championships in the 40s.

Annapolis is pretty, but the stadium is not located in a scenic location.

I don't remember Georgia playing a service academy in my lifetime. Would love to see it happen.

LSU lost to Army in 1931. They've never played Navy or Air Force. The last service academy they played was the Citadel in 2002 and won 35-10

Georgia Pre-Flight in 1942 was an awesome squad. Had a bunch of pro football talent on in who had enlisted for WW2 who played on the team. They practiced in Athens along side UGA's 1942 squad. For example Jim Poole and Frank Flichcock were NFL all-pros who played for the Skycrackers.

Kentucky Never

Kentucky lost 2 times to the Virginia Military Institute. Shouldn't that qualify?

Other than that you have 1 game against the Citadel and no other games vs any military schools.

If you're going to count the WW2 training schools as academies, then Auburn lost to Georgia Pre Flight in 1942.

And some of those WW2 training school teams were basically semi-pro teams.

1942 Georgia Pre Flight

They even played their homes games at Sanford Stadium and beat #7 Alabama at Legion Field.

All of Alabama's losses that year were to teams from Georgia (Pre Flight, UGA, GTU).

It's much closer to a service academy than Georgia Pre-Flight was.

Agree. It is a military school, but not a service academy.

This only works if one of those teams didn't still beat your team that season.

Considering there were only 2 academies at that time and they are highly selective (not to mention the nomination letter requirement), TAMU's quantity over USNA and USMA isn't impressive.
