(Borrowed from eloquent TR explanation post)
Quick pitching is one of those unwritten no-nos in the game of baseball. It’s a bush-league move. Doing it once during an at-bat is a bitch move, doing it twice on back-to-back pitches is straight up disrespectful. Think screaming a base number to confuse a fielder in the midst of a crucial play in the game.
Naturally, Jones was bottling up some well justified anger given the scenario. To then get time granted by the ump and take the very next pitch (which the pitcher still tried to quick pitch him on) 453’ to dead center, the kid is naturally going to have an explosion of emotion and a feeling of vindication. We can debate whether the actions were appropriate, but it’s no different than the shite everyone loves in football after big plays in big moments.
So all you bitching about his actions and saying shite like “he needs to be suspended”, kindly remove your tampon, and go screw yourself. Kid did nothing wrong.

What I found interesting comes from an article in today's paper, quoting the umpire. He said it's a new rule, any kind of show boating or attempts to show up another player, etc. requires him to issue an automatic warning. Second offense, ejection is mandatory. Guessing that's what happened to the Fla. pitcher? But the ump did pull Jones aside & explain all this, saying at the end "sorry, just doing my job per the new rules". With SEC umps, this leaves way too much to their interpretation, my take. i.e. do we trust SEC umps to do the right thing?

Mingione did something similar while he was 1st base coach during his time at State.
quote:
Hanover was going to throw home when all of a sudden he heard a voice yelling '2-2-2-2,'" Mainieri said. "It was their first base coach yelling that. There's no rule against it in the rule book, but there's an unwritten rules in the game of baseball. Your not supposed to do things like that. That's a bush league move and I let him know that."

He's not going to turn around and own up to it. He'd rather just watch the ball sail into the atmosphere and hide like a bitch.

with the pitch clock that unwritten rule is going to have to go imo
and honestly I don't care either way about pitches/batters celebrating loudly. I think maybe we are trending too much to unsportsmanlike with some of it, but we also we were too gentlemanly for 100 years not allowing any celebrations. I feel like there is a sweet spot

Not so sure about that. I believe the MLB has addressed this situation and allows for the batter to get in the box and set before the pitcher is allowed to start to pitch. If the pitcher throws before the batter is set, a ball is called. However, the batters are also on a clock, so that pretty much counters the clock the pitchers have. Batters have 7 seconds to get in the box once the clock starts.

quote:So Mingione was new at UK and did come from the bush league, literally. Mingione yells at an outfielder to go to 2nd (2,2,2,2) rather than home, (4,4,4,4). He slept in his car on his way to Lexington after serving a mission trip that Cohen was reluctant to allow. But, Mingione was committed. Great American success story if you ask me.
Even former LSU HC, CPM, normally pretty laid back, screamed at his arse. The words "bush league" have pictures of both in the dictionary.
