DT. If you can blow up the middle every play you win.

DT. If he's good he's more important than the QB.

Middle linebacker.
I'm with you vengance. Give me a MLB that can 'quarterback' the defense. See what's going on. Get folks in the right position. Make the calls. Get in teammates faces when necessary.

My top 5 positions:
QB
OT - especially LT due to being most QB's blindside
DE
RB
MLB

It has to be linebacker.
1 defensive player can wreck an offense. A left tackle can't wreck a defense (he needs 4 to 5 other blockers all hitting their assignments).
I agree that an offense that can possess and move the ball trumps a defense. But no one position can accomplish that on offense except for a dual threat qb.
Linebacker over DT because you can double-team a DT and take him out of the game. You can scheme and take him out of the game. Linebackers are more apt to make things happen playside and backside than a DT. A DT can affect the offensive play calling more. But the LB can affect the stats and make big plays regardless of playcall.

I get what you are saying and it does make sense but I would still go with the dominant DL over the LB. An elite lineman eats up double teams and sometimes triple teams making the linebackers job much easier. Plus an elite guy like Jon Allen eats double teams on running downs and also affects the quarterback on passing downs. Reuben Foster is a beast and possible top 10 pick but there is a reason Jonathan Allen will be drafted before he is.

It is LT.
However, it seems like DTs are the most scarce of the really important positions. At least my schools lower down the totem pole never seem to have enough.
