MSU most embarrassing is Maine.

But 3-2 Auburn is the worst attempt at football I have ever seen.

Auburn - 2006 Georgia?

I was there. I knew Tubs had to gtfo after that game was over. Cost us an SECC and probably NC.

I would say the 2014 Egg Bowl. However, the playoff committee would have likely jumped Ohio State over us anyway after they blew out Wisconsin 59-0. So the best we would have had is the Orange Bowl, which is where we ended up.

Aside from that, we had losses against Bama in 1999 and Arky in 2000 which derailed any chances at winning the West in those years.

Oh, and I forgot that our loss to Florida in 1980 cost us a share of the SEC championship.

A&M is 1975 Arkansas and there really isn't a close second.

We would have lost to FSU.

We would have killed Florida State in that game.

for LSU, while last year's Florida game was pretty devastating, I'm going to go with Ref Gate.

The Reggie Fish muffed punt in 06 SEC title game hurt more than that for me.

Being at the 2014 A&M game, I don't think I've ever left JH as angry as I did that night.

That sucked but not really sure why that would be the most devastating. VOLS still had all of their goals within reach at the end of the season

Gotta be 2002 UF or one of the 2007 losses

Nailed it. If you expand to include SEC Championships then 2012 vs UA takes it.

VOLS - 2001 SECCG

VOLS would've been playing for their 2nd National Championship in four years and imo, they were one of only two teams in the country that could've hung with Miami that year (the other being Florida).

Instead, we blow an early lead with sloppy play, fumbles and John Chavis inexplicably forgets how to defend a QB sneak executed by a future dentist. Tennessee has not been an elite program since that night in Atlanta and yes, I'm still mad.

At the time of the game, it certainly sucked, but by the end of the season, we kind of saw what the team was... so nowhere near as devastating as 02 UF or either loss in 07 (probably more so the UT game hurt the perception the most, given that it was against a bad team, and much more lopsided than the USC game).

Maybe. They were ahead of Ohio State in both the AP and BCS though before losing to us in 02 and that was their only loss.

2003 LSU is up there too. Georgia dominated the game in Baton Rouge but missed several short field goals. Had 6 possessions inside the 40 and scored 3 points and that was just the first half. Handed them that game on a silver platter. To their credit, they absolutely hammered Georgia in the rematch.

If Georgia had won that game in Baton Rouge, they would have played Ole Miss in the SECCG and beaten them handily, IMO. Georgia would have probably been in the Sugar Bowl vs Oklahoma for the BCS Title.

Do you not know about all the history around Arkansas/Texas in 69? I mean the POTUS was there to unofficially crown the national champ.

Alabama - Kick Six

This was certainly a heart breaker for fans, but it wasn't devastating. It was sandwiched in a line of four NC's in six seasons.

I think the most devastating loss in recent times was a 21-0 loss to Southern Miss in 2000. That was the beginning of the hard times. Probation, Dubose Fired, Franchione sneaking off in the dead of night, Price fired before he even signed a contract, Shula fired. That game kicked off the worst 8 years in the program's history.

Win that and I believe LSU goes back to the national championship vs Notre Dame and Les is still coaching.
