Bulldogs are more inbred and tigers are more endangered.

considering the LSU Tigers aren't named after the actual animal but rather a group of men who fought like tigers... i'd say bulldogs are more unoriginal

quote:

Our look at Louisiana college mascots takes us to Louisiana State University, whose athletes have been known as Tigers since the 1890s. LSU’s football team played without a name for its first three seasons before adopting the nickname “Tigers” in 1896. The name was commonly used by Louisiana soldiers as far back as the Mexican War, according to historian Dan Hardesty. During the Civil War, a military regiment known as the Louisiana Tigers “distinguished itself with its fighting spirit in the battle of the Shenandoah Valley, where it was said they 'fought like tigers,'" Hardesty wrote in his book, LSU: The Louisiana Tigers.

I think I’m todays realm, at the worst, at least we have an actual live tiger. Bulldog is more accessible but definitely required as well.

speaking of mascots - I looked it up - Jeaux Burreaux was an "Athens Bulldog" in high school.

^^^^ that's him wearing #10

green & gold are Mardi Gras colors, too.

that's a lot of MoJeaux going against Georgia in Death Valley come Sayr'dy...hard to believe, I tell ya, cause we all know ~ "Georgia can't lose!"

The most common NCAA mascots (all divisions)

Some sort of Eagle: 76
Tigers: 46
Bulldogs: 40
Panthers: 33
Knights: 32
Lions: 32
Bears: 30
Pioneers: 28
Hawks: 28
Cougars: 27
Wildcats: 27

If I were to guess the top 10 - Pioneers wouldn't have been anywhere close, yet there it is.

#FreeMikeTheTiger

It is cruel to take an animal from a place where it only has to worry about poachers to Baton Rouge.

Well, "Tigers" were the monicker used for all of Louisiana's Civil War soldiers (although it started with a specific division from Louisiana name "The Tigers"). Louisiana soldiers were infamous for being hard-fighting, obstinate, drunk, defiant of leadership, and possessing a reputation for killing their own officers if they didn't like them.

Since The Louisiana Tigers has a war history (much like the Tennessee Volunteers), I'd have to say Bulldogs is less original (assuming Georgia has no such similar war heritage for its mascot).

I will go with Tigers, since Clemson copied everything.

The opposite side of this coin...

The most original mascot is the Stanford Cardinal "Tree"

It even changes its look every year!

Neither are very original compared to the fighting okra or the banana slugs.

Out of the 14 bulldogs, why are none of them the pit bulls, which would seem more vicious. Nobody is particularly afraid of getting slobbered on.

On a side note, the 13 tigers account for 35 football national championships*. (Princeton, LSU, Clemson, Auburn)

The 14 Bulldogs account for 29. (Yale, Georgia)

ok...objectively, here goes. Keep in mind that today (2018) we know that Tigers have been around for about 1.2 million years. But what you have to remember is that back in 1892, when Auburn was nicknamed Tigers, they had only been around for 1,199,874 years. I'd like to think there was still bit of a mystery about them, because they were relatively new.
