I don't think he's ever going to get a quarterback that's any better than Corral to come to Ole Miss. He hasn't really done much with him. His play-calling has devolved into something like watching a 13 year old play Madden football. Other than being good for laughs what's his upside really, would Ole Miss fans even care if Lane left now?

If he reigns in the ridiculous analytics and going for it on fourth down all the time he might turn out OK.

They are markedly improved since Matt Luke but the real trial is after those players are gone.

I agree. His act is now a sideshow. Going for it in the redzone last night when he could have kicked a field goal and made it a one score game was idiotic.

He can't get out of his own way. I don't see him having any lasting success as a head coach. No wonder Pat Haden fired his arse on the tarmac and Coach Saban put him out before the Natty.

Seriously, can Ole Miss really hope for any better?

He’s made Ole Miss almost relevant and won them games they wouldnt have a few years ago. It’s a win for them no matter what.

That being said, no reasonable OM fan should think he’s a long term fixture at OM. He’s most likely going to bolt soon while he’s still a commodity. If not, he’ll be fired once the shine wears off in the next 2 years or so.
He’s shown he can’t do much with a talented QB, he’s not going to survive the years where that isn’t the case, which is just a reality at coaching at somewhere that’s not Bama or Georgia.

It's not like they can reasonably do any better. Lane will have a job there as long as he wants it.

If he had any depth at all he’s sitting at 7-1 right now and favored in his last four games. I also think we are an attractive transfer destination for skill players in particular. He’s going to be fine.

They can certainly do better, but that doesn’t mean that they’ll try to or acknowledge the fact that hiring Kiffen was nothing more than an attention grab.

In recent years, hiring no-name coaches has worked out better for the low and mid tier SEC programs.

He'll never be anywhere long. Why? His personality blows everything up. Football programs, his family, his reputation.

He's an impulsive but good football mind. He should accept he needs to be a highly paid coordinator under a strong personality at HC.

Defense seems to befuddle and confuse him. He has no idea how to handle it.

Oh, no, not the other team's defense. His own. The fact that he has one and it sometimes has to take the field just seems to make him really uncomfortable.

If Kiffin is still there this time next year I think a lot of OM fans would be surprised. He's proven time and time again that he cannot be trusted. And for the record, Corral had one of the best receiving corps in the SEC prior to injuries and a great backfield so it's not all him

Just to remind everyone, He’s won ten of his last 13 games. Losing only at Baton Rouge in a game he was in with only half his offense, at Auburn in a game he was in with half his offense and an injured quarterback, and at Alabama. What’s going on in this thread?

But his style of play increases injuries. It will be something you will always deal with while running 80 plays a game. There is a reason Gus and others moved away from HUNH.

Ken Smithmier, a judgement expert hired by Alabama and Nick Saban detailed Kiffin and his past of not staying at jobs very long and a desire to overcome Saban in his career. It was an article after he appeared on Football two a days. He said the following:

“Kiffin strikes me, and his history supports this, as a guy that is inherently unstable,” he said. “I don’t mean unstable psychologically, I am not implying that, I am not qualified to make that call. Just look at his tenure. How it turned out at Tennessee, how it turned out at USC, Saban fires him a week before the national championship game while he is down house hunting in Boca.

“Whether he goes to LSU, or USC, or anywhere, I can’t imagine that Lane is going to spend the rest of his career, or even 10 years at Ole Miss building a program. I think somewhere in him, is this desire to ultimately overcome Saban. I think the one job that if he were to ever plant and stay for a long time would be if he could get Alabama. My fun kind of hypothetical scenario is Lane gets the LSU job, wins the national championship, and then Saban retires. Lane jilts LSU and goes to Alabama because he ultimately wants to be the guy that sits in Nick Saban’s chair.”

This guys a so called expert, but the only person that really knows is Kiffen
