Omit the Arkansas game. In games between the top two ranked teams in the polls, Alabama has won five in a row going back to the Sugar Bowl win over Penn State.

Fair enough. I didn't bother to look back at the rankings or records. Just the ones I could remember that Alabama won a national championship.

I love it when other team's fans say that Bama benefitted from the national championship being awarded before the bowl games (and didn't deserve it), but claim all national championships awarded to their teams under the same system.

Then why does Bama claim that one?

Because the UPI/Coaches Poll was still naming a national champion prior to the bowls.

Yeah bowl games were just novelties. I think the year Bama beat Oklahoma 17-0 when JFK attended, Oklahoma had already been awarded the national title.

Why does Tennessee claims some of theirs, especially the ones with a bowl loss?

UT's 1940 team was 10-1 and lost the Sugar Bowl to Boston College who finished 11-0. Minnesota won the AP. But Tennessee claims it.

1967 Tennessee was 9-2 and lost the Orange Bowl to Oklahoma who went 10-1 that year. UT was awarded by Litkenhous but finished the season ranked 3 and 4 in the AP and UPI. UT claims the national championship.

At least Bama was awarded the NC by UPI. It was the way it was done then.

National championship games started in 1992They've played in 4 and are 4-0.

Good grief, how ignorant.

You LSU fans will go to any lengths to try to prove CFB didn't exist before 20 years ago...when you guys sucked for the better part of a century.

LSU fans have to have the lowest football IQs of any fanbase I've ever encountered...which makes sense...they only started paying attention to CFB in 2000.

Go educate yourself and report back to me in a 1000-word essay.

The fact of the matter is, Bama doesn't use any method of claiming titles that are any different from Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio St., USC (and even Tennessee) or any of the other powers. They all use the major selectors of their day to claim championships. Tennessee uses the same selectors as Bama has to claim titles, yet Bama gets hammered on this. Only Oklahoma uses major poll titles to claim titles.

No one can question Major Poll titles (AP, UPI/Coaches) and Bama has more of those (10) than anyone.

Because the rest of the coaches in the country decided to give it to us?

No they weren't.

In 1964, Alabama was named the national champion in the final AP Poll following the completion of the regular season, but lost in the Orange Bowl to Texas, leaving Arkansas as the only undefeated, untied team after the Razorbacks defeated Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl Classic.

In 1965, the AP decreed that from now on its national champion would be selected after New Year's. Therefore, since the 1965 season Bowl games were very important.

Yes, the UPI did not change until after the 1973 Sugar Bowl fiasco where undefeated Notre Dame beat Alabama, but don't even try to say that Bowl games were just exhibition bonus games in 1973 when the most important Poll, at that period of time, the AP Poll, was determining it's champion after the Bowl games.
