The 1963 Game of Change would be a great one, but it shows that not all Mississippi was racist back then, so we'll never see it.

Synopsis:

MSU won five straight SEC basketball championships, and went 24-1 in 1962. The governor of Mississippi would not allow a state institution to play against teams with black players.

In 1963, State won the SEC again, and was once again invited to the NCAA Tournament. Coach McCarthy snuck the team out of town. Coaches went to Memphis, starters hid in the trunks of vehicles while reserves drove past road blocks. They all made it to Nashville and flew to Michigan where they lost to eventual national champion Loyola.

Horrible incident but would make a good documentary. For Mizzou "How Mizzou caused the decline of the Big 12" narrated by Bill Self

It would be Beebe narrating. Unfortunately it will never happen because for it to be accurate at all it would basically be a smear piece on tejas.

If it was done right it would be really, really good

I guess.
Just don't know that I trust that to occur.
I think if they involved some redpots, some injured Ags (e.g., John Comstock), and a family or two, it'd have potential.
But I'd be too concerned about ESPN sensationalizing it and focusing on the tragedy, rather than on what it meant to plan, cut, stack, build, and push.
Ironically, the final lawsuit was settled last week.

Ultimately, I have the utmost faith in Jason Cook, and he'd undoubtedly play an integral role in such a project.

And with that, I need a scotch.

I agree. It would have to focus extensively on the history of it to really show what it meant, along with the rescue efforts and game after to show how the community came together. I would be really skeptical if they ever made one about it honestly

Think Auburn already has two they are heavily associated with, and both are great.

I would think a 30 for 30 about former LSU football coach Bo Rein would be interesting .

I agree. On the flip side I could listen to Bo's former baseball and football coaches telling his freakshow stories for like 7 hours

I probably couldn't watch it. The memories of having attended so many gut-wrenching funerals--in a manner of days--are still too fresh in my head. I have yet to open my special edition, autographed copy of A Burning Desire. It sits, unopened. In my TV armoire.

A little known side note: a few weeks later, we (Houston Ags) were still catatonic over the tragedy and couldn't think of much of anything. The days felt like years, and we were filled with such unspeakable grief, it never, ever eased. So one evening--on a whim--we grabbed some hymnals and went caroling--softly & respectfully--to the homes of the families of our Ags who we lost.

We didn't want them to be bothered, but we wanted them to know we held them up in prayer and in every other need they had. As we softly sang Christmas carols and held candles in the cold darkness, Nathan West's dad, mother, and sister came outside, held us, and began to sing the War Hymn. Keep in mind, this was days after laying their son in the ground. It was probably one of the most religious experiences of my life. It turned into a tear-stained version of chig-ga-roo-gar-em like none other. But we laughed, cried, and remembered.

Just one of thousands of memories I have of the nightmare. Watching an ESPN piece--for me--would be artificial.

I still have yet to watch the Burning Desire myself.

I would hope that an ESPN documentary would have the appropriate gravitas. But that would just make it that much more difficult to watch for me.

Here.

They could do a couple on Alabama. I can see ESPN doing one on the 1926 Rose Bowl which legitimized Southern football or the Albert Means scandal. They could also do one on the 2012 BCSNCG and how it directly led to a playoff.

20 years down the road, they will do one on conference realignment probably with Texas and A&M at the center.

I would actually be really interested in ESPN doing one on college football during WWII. There were a lot of college teams that sprang up out of nowhere and petty much ceased to exist after the war.

For all of SEC

"Cost of Attendence"

Synopsis:

Weaving together the issues of amatuerism in sport, specialized curricula for athletes lacking real academic quality, and the grueling physicality requiring so many surgeries. This documentary would explain how these problems were most apparent in the SEC, and how the SEC forced the NCAA to allow radical change to the instition of college football in America.
