LSU and Bama should make a deal, let a few LBs from us enter the portal for transfer and OL from Bama enter the portal for even swaps. LOL

It’s a deal.

You can sweeten the pot with a kicker, too.

Naw...this is far beyond a normal injury bug.
Both starting ILBs injured and all the others in the last 3 seasons. It’s biblical.

It's not even an injury bug.

The most common injured position in football? Linebacker, and not by a little, but double that of other positions in the last study I saw.

The most common injuy in football?

Knee injuries. More specifically: ACL. More time is lost because of ACL and knee injuries in general than any other injury.

What is this injury? A Linebacker with an ACL. Surprise!

Why is the linebacker position the most often injured? A few reasons.

As far as mass movement, linebackers are usually moving the most mass at the most speed. That makes them more prone to these injuries because more strain is put on their joints.

Furthermore, linebackers make the most hits and tackles in general of any other position in football defensively. Probably the only position that takes as many hits would be the running back position - which btw is the position that is injured the most on offense and also shares the mass movement issue I mentioned above.

Some people might end up blowing their own ACL with the knee jerk reactions around here.

Agreed. If every guy had a similar injury then I get it but this is just how this shite happens.

It does seem like Bama linebackers are constantly hurt though.

This is just a rough glance at the participation report, so I'm sure someone will correct me, but...

Counting the 12 regular season games that McMillon and Moses will each miss this year, Bama LBs have combined to miss 73 games due to injury since 2017.

Whether that worked or not remains to be seen though. Maybe it will. If any of them want to make sure everyone isn't hurt before the season, they can certainly practice in a way that almost guarantees it. But does that bite you later? Bout to find out.

And yet 1 national title, 1 SEC title, and 3 CFP wins.

Hate it for the kids, but don't expect tears for your team.

This is way more than bad luck. Something serious is going on.
Since 2016, we've had 5 key LB's who will have missed at least 7 games due to injury.

Terrell Lewis: 25
Dylan Moses: 13-15 (depending on how this season goes)
Joshua McMillon: 13-15 (depending on how this season goes)
Christian Miller: 10
Shaun Dion Hamilton: 7

Anfernee Jennings, Rashaan Evans, and Mack Wilson have also missed time due to injury in this time.

And when they get hit, look what's hitting them.

John Hannah was perhaps the greatest and most feared offensive lineman in NFL history. Defenders looked to take a dive when he pulled and came around the end on a sweep.

He weighed 274 pounds at Alabama.

The average OL at Bama today weighs 50 pounds more.

it boggles my mind that guys like Justin Flow and Nakobe Dean don't want to come here when they'd easily start from day 1, as opposed to sitting on the bench for a year or two.

now you know how every other school feels about RBs, DL, etc. that sign with Bama

Nick Saban causes more injuries to Bama players than opposing teams...

Just kidding!

Many of the ACLs etc. are non contact injuries.

The human body is not designed to support the size, weight, and speed of modern day athletes.

We have finally reached the point that humans cannot get bigger and faster and stronger without consequences.

if you want backup OL, you should be trading w/ UGA. of course we don't need any LBs - might take a TE/WR/QB though.

Bingo.

The ACL ‘epidemic’ continues in NFL

David Chao..."Profootballdoc"...is a former NFL head team doc 17+years and practicing orthopedic surgeon.

"In fact, the last five years have seen an average of about 23 ACL tears before the start of the regular season.

Why do these happen? Didn’t we correct this problem with the most recent CBA by reducing practice time and, in particular, contact in practice?

The reality is that limiting contact practice may reduce some injuries but will not reduce ACL tears.

The vast majority (70-80%) of ACL tears happen without direct contact,
as was reportedly the case with Henry and Worrilow on Tuesday.

As players get bigger/faster/stronger, the ACL stays the same size. (Exactly the point I made earlier in this thread.) Without contact, there is a premium on speed, precision and tempo in practice. When a sharp cut is made and the foot sticks in the ground — much like a ski binding not releasing — the injury happens.

Unfortunately, given all this, ACL injuries are unpreventable.

Any sort of ACL prevention program, which can be effective to some extent for the untrained athlete and females, have not been proven effective in the NFL. And in the course of their regular workouts, NFL athletes already perform much of the muscle training included in such prevention programs.

Offensive linemen and some defensive linemen are mandated to wear knee braces in college. But for the most part, that is not the case in the NFL. Many athletes resist wearing braces in the NFL, as they feel it restricts them. Modern brace technology is excellent, and as an orthopedist, I recommend prophylactic knee brace usage. But players often value performance and technique over protection that feels restrictive to them. And the fact is, while use of knee braces can help, it does not prevent all ACL tears.

History tells us there will be about 20 more ACL tears before kickoff in the season-opening game."

If anyone has listened to Bama players in the past, their practices are a hell of a lot tougher than actual games. Even the guys that turned pro have said the same thing. Maybe Saban is over doing it in practice, but more times than not his players look prepared when they take the field.

I'l' admit losing Moses was tough to swallow today.
