We can quibble about the exact distance, but pretty much every SEC school has enough talent within 300 miles to win a title. It's just closing the deal.

Aggie giving guidance on football again….its like going to Richard Simmons for TRT advice

USC has never been a threat to us even in years they won, Auburn is irrelevant, and Clemson gets their arse beat Everytime we play.

UGA could recruit with Uber.

But the fact of the matter is that a school like Alabama or Auburn is in a great spot because while their own state isn't the best for recruiting... they are situated to where they are proximate to all the other SEC states.

Yes, Alabama and Auburn are in close proximity to loads of talent in Florida and Georgia. But don’t downplay the talent in Alabama. It produces a lot of blue chip prospects every cycle. It’s one of the highest ranked states for NFL talent per capita.

There is nothing equal about talent proximity in the SEC. The fact that only 6 teams (coincidentally the 6 teams closest to the most blue chip talent) have won every league championship since 1964.

Arkansas is in the barren desert compared to the Big 6 teams and the Texas teams.

They are twice as far from north Texas as OU and don’t have anything close to the recruiting network foundation that OU has there.

Kentucky and Missouri can’t compare to the Big 6 and Texas schools (adding OU to the Texas schools) either.

Texas Florida have the best recruits. Throw in Georgia too

Baw, Louisiana has 14 blue chippers in state this year. Georgia has 45.

LSU’s recruiting advantage isn’t limited to being the only P5 in LA. LSU is closer to South MS and Mobile area talent than any other P5. And it’s less than an hour further from Houston than Texas is.

Clemson and Auburn might as well be in Georgia.

Alabama has the best program. I’d give UGA the nod with recruiting territory

1a) LSU 1b) UGA 2) Texas none of these schools have to leave their state

When talking about recruiting once Barry Switzer said “give me Houston and I’ll give you the rest of the country.”

A few years ago Louisiana had the most players in the NFL per capita. LSU doesn’t have to leave the state and no real tier 1 teams to compete with.

Florida has too talent but obviously other big time programs.

I’d agree with a list of
1. LSU
2. UGA
3. Horns

I think LSU. The amount of underrated guys that go on to the NFL, in addition to the highly rated talent, is incredible for a state that size with no in-state recruiting competition.

This is the correct answer.

50 percent is Atlanta? I am suprised. I lived in Rome, Warner Robins, Gainesville(yes there is a Georgia one too). Figured the percentage was around 35 percent.

50% of GA's population is Atlanta, and the majority of those people are not native Georgians. Their parents came here from somewhere else, and they are raised Auburn fans, Florida fans, Tennessee fans, etc. So just because they were born and raised in the geography that is Georgia, many were also raised to be fans of another team.

There is a lot of truth here. Playing a short drive from home has a lot of recruiting sway with the parents, but Clemson and Auburn can offer that as well. Tennessee and Alabama aren’t much further away. Atlanta doesn’t have the same cultural loyalty to UGA that places like New Orleans has to LSU or Birmingham to AL/AU. South GA is where you find the most loyal UGA fans but even there you have FSU in the backyard.

If UGA was such an easy job, they would have always been great like Ohio State. UGA’s dominance has more to do with Kirby Smart and less to do with being near Atlanta. Kirby is keeping kids home that would otherwise leave.

Metro Atlanta is 6 million people now. It’s huge.

Would you rather drive 300 miles (5 hours) 8 times a year to see your kid play, or 80 miles?

Kentucky, Arkansas, and Mizzou are at significant disadvantages without easy access to true “deep south” recruiting areas. UK is fairly close to Ohio but for top talent the Ohio River might as well be a wall given the dominance Ohio State and B10 schools have there. Those programs already face an uphill climb but its even harder when all of your competitors are much closer to nearly every recruit you want.

They keep their heads down and grind. Not flashy. And... they actually win stuff.

Doesn't come close to explaining all those long flights Kirby is taking. State talent has nothing to do with it. The state of Georgia also provides great talent for everyone else. Florida too. California too. Texas too.

The best recruiting setup is the one that brings in the best talent. How ridiculous to think these best of the best recruiting machines aren't working their butts off 24/7. They are literally babysitting around the clock, having to be relentless, and it has to be exhausting, regardless of location.

Texas only has to compete with Aggie which isn't a big threat to them.

OU gets a lot from Texas, as does a lot of other schools in state and around the country.

The answer really is LSU and UGA

If it was basketball or baseball I'd happily say Arkansas is in surprisingly good shape.

But it is football and we are in a world of trouble there. Little Rock used to be one of the great HS football talent producing cities in the US. That hasn't been the case for decades. We have to recruit outside the state.

Not only that but questionable recruiting strategies in the past now mean that we have to defend prospects in our own state. Missouri and Ole Miss comfortably fish in our waters now.
