I'm a regular at Foley field. When the team is actually competitive, the stadium is almost always sold out. If the athletic department would find a way to expand the stadium then I think the facilities would better reflect the fan's appreciation. Last I heard they were at least replacing all the bleachers with chair backs so it's a start

You have to give Mississippi State its props. They were averaging huge crowds before any of the other SEC schools were.

What SEC schools have been to Omoha two or more times this decade?
Posted on 6/29/10 at 4:07 pm to Tennessee Jed
CWS appearances this decade:
LSU - 5
UGA - 4
USCe - 4
UT - 3
UF - 2
Arky - 2
State - 1
Looking at those numbers makes it seem odd that the western side of the division would have a larger baseball following

I posted the home attendance figures for SEC schools for football, basketball, & baseball here.
I'm not sure if college baseball will ever catch on at TN, KY, or VU, but it's popular at other SEC schools, and getting more popular among some schools like Rice, Texas, Louisville, Coastal Carolina, etc.
The SEC almost had 6 teams with more home attendance for baseball than basketball this academic year, but Auburn just missed out (in part because they blew their regional against Clemson).
Auburn, Alabama, & Georgia will all probably become baseball-#2 schools within the next 10 years. Florida I'm not so sure about.

I love baseball, but I hope our interest in basketball rises dramatically over the next few seasons with Trent Johnson at the helm.

And this past year even though we were the suck.

It's a shame how little people care about baseball in Tuscaloosa. I try to make a good many of the games, but there are on average 10x as many fans at a damn softball game than any baseball game I've seen.
Ridiculous.
Ridiculous.

bullshite.
Alabama is top ten in attendance in the country every year. We're second only to LSU in regular season and tournament titles. We have been to Omaha since 1999, but we've stepped on our own toes in a 2006 Super Regional against UNC, and came up short at Clemson this year in the Super Regional.

Alabama fans will support any sport outside of football that's putting a winning product on the field. Even still, Alabama manages to stay among the top ten in attendance with a baseball program that's ten years removed from its height.
You must not have been paying attention, or were too young to remember Alabama baseball just a short 5-1 years ago.

Average how often each school has sold out their stadium the last 15 years or so. If you have plenty of free time on your hands, that should give you a good idea.

I couldn't find any updated ranking for the 2010 season, but here are the national attendance rankings for 2009.

1. LSU 41 394,068 9,611
2. Arkansas 31 245,092 7,906
3. Mississippi 39 273,111 7,003
4. South Carolina 34 231,360 6,805
5. Mississippi St. 25 157,530 6,301
6. Texas 35 217,637 6,218
7. Clemson 36 170,156 4,727
8. Florida St. 39 184,227 4,724
9. Texas A&M 35 142,660 4,076
10. Alabama 29 116,294 4,010
Keep in mind, Alabama struggled through Wells last season in 2009, and there was a lot more following in 2010.

I'm an old timer but I would have to rank Mississippi State as being first on the list. When I attended LSU we were lucky to have fifty people at The Box. Every time State came to The Box, they would bring hundreds of fans. Going to a game in Starkville back in '72 was an eye opening experience. That school sucked big time in football but going to a game over there reminded me of a LSU home football game. Those people had their grills going full blast plus they had booze that they sneaked in. Those people gave a crap about baseball. All of a sudden LSU and the rest of the SEC (way before Arky entered the league) of the success that State was having with baseball. This was at a time when the LSU wrestling program attracted more fans than baseball. As far as women's softball, thank Carolina for that. When they entered the league just a few SEC schools had a softball program.

At last, an LSU fan that acknowledges that baseball was played before Skip Bertman. While I have lots of respect for what LSU built in baseball, Mississippi State was the original baseball king in the SEC. Alabama hasn't had too bad of a history either.

We could win back to back to back world series and Tennessee wouldn't care about baseball half as much as some fans care about womens basketball

The fact that Arkansas baseball drew more fans this season than Arkansas basketball represents a major shift in Fayetteville.
I went to 3 basketball games, and about 20 baseball games this year.
