Since the Aggies obviously broke NCAA rules, what kind of penalties should they expect to receive?

quote:

...there are pictures of Chavis wearing Texas A&M gear while recruiting that hit the Internet Jan. 15 and Jan. 23. In the Jan. 23 photo, Chavis, dressed in a Texas A&M coaching pullover, is giving the camera two "thumbs up" while flanking Northeast Oklahoma Jr. College cornerback Justin Martin...Martin confirmed in another story... Also in a Jan. 16 NOLA. com story, Hahnville linebacker Dwaine Thomas, who had committed to Louisiana-Lafayette, confirmed that he had scheduled a visit to Texas A&M after Chavis identified him as a prospect he wanted a closer look at... Consider all that, and the fact that NCAA rules state only full-time staff members are allowed to recruit.

So apply the rule to the picture and what Chavis is saying about not being on the A&M payroll until Feb. 13 and it screams RULES VIOLATION.

4 more years of Sumlin, and they decided not to appeal.

Do you know how many times Ole Miss has bent over the NCAA the last decade? There's a reason Orgeron's recruiting classes were never investigated at length.

Bill Youngkin has yet to even view the LSU-Chavis contract. I wouldn't put too much credence on what he thinks on the matter quite yet

Usually when you talk about Aggies committing violations, it's entirely different type of conversation. Violations are how they turn a fish into a redass.

Yup. They are coming to Texas on the same plane as Saban.

He was still employed by LSU and could have been recruiting under their legality. Is their a rule against wearing an opposing schools gear while recruiting lol?

Except it appears that at least two recruits allegedly confirmed that A&M was recruiting them when Chavis happened to be present...a lot less wiggle room with that.

I'm with Hail. I mean you can't prove that Chavis said a word. So many loopholes exist.

It's going to be tough to loophole your way out of this one.

poor widdle tigah

Bill Youngkin is Chavis's personal attorney. He has nothing to do with recruiting violations.

I'm sure you're referring to the buyout so I'll address that. A prominent A&M booster indemnified Chavis and had his attorneys reviewed it. He was advised not to pay it because it's poorly constructed and fairly easy to navigate around. A&M knew LSU's bitterness would likely go to court so we crossed the t's, dotted the i's and this lawsuit is a non-threat.

We did get good bit of enjoyment out of LSU asking for additional money due to emotional distress - for those that don't know, they really did this

Suggestions: hire better lawyers to draw up contracts. Hire better compliance officers so you don't get sanctions. Raise more money so you can afford to pay your coaches.

Best of luck in the future

It doesn't matter. There won't be any sanctions and everybody knows that. What does matter is now A&M has a pretty good defensive coordinator finally.

HOWEVER, I will add that it will be very interesting to see how Chavis fares with a team that puts his defense on the field for enormous amounts of time and in tough situations because of turnovers, bad field position, etc. Although Chavis did not have the luxury of working with teams that had great offenses, he did have the luxury of time of possession on his side....and let's not forget that in 2013 LSU had the most prolific offense in school history and still lost 3 games...with LSU's defensive talent. I can't wait for the first time that A&M is ahead and loses a game in the last 2 minutes so I can witness the meltdown.
