Yeah, there's homelessness, but which city doesn't have that right now? I expected San Francisco but got clean streets and a good time.

Exactly. The haters kind of screw themselves by painting this unrealistic and over exaggerated image of Austin.

There is a reason it’s the fastest growing City in America.

Will never understand why traditional Southern towns are considered "shitholes." They have some good and some bad, but they are us, damnit. you can have Atlanta, Nashville, Austin etc.

Do LSU fans even try to dispute this? I work with several who readily admit this.

You don't see SEC fans flying in to Baton Rouge and immediatedly taking an Uber or cab to North Baton Rouge.

I've never seen an area in Baton Rouge that was pleasant. The city is a shite hole and there's no denying it. It even stinks

Notice you moved 70 miles away to SA. Hypocrite…Austin is that bad. Have no doubt about it. It is the San Francisco of Texas. I have had immediate family that has lived in Austin the past 75 years. All but two have moved..to other cities in the area.

Nashville is a cool town. Probably one of the better towns considering all the entertainment, food, and history.

If you're lower or middle income, it can be too expensive to live in Austin. It's what happens when demand is great. I have never said otherwise.

Lot of variables.

I live in small town Mississippi, and it's awesome. Good schools, relatively cheap housing, little traffic, good jobs.

Memphis

Memphis is weird in that some parts of it you'd say "geez, this is one of the nicest neighborhoods I've ever seen." And a block away even the cockroaches are packing heat. I've never, ever, seen a city that schizophrenic.

The one big selling point for Memphis is that it has a ton of top notch doctors. But, to make up for that, you've got a lot of "don't take this turn off or you are rolling the dice on your life". There are luxury hotels next door to some of the worst slums in the United States. Its crazy.

So you've never been to LSU campus? Downtown? State Capital? Country Club of Louisiana? Any of the plantation homes? Bluebonnet swamp? Alton Sterling memorial?

Fayetteville, Arkansas.

It is the worst place on earth and nobody should consider moving there.

Starkville may be boring, but it is not a "shithole." It's just a small Mississippi town and since that is basically the majority of the state, it is kind of fitting.

Sounds like it's right up there with Chicago. Lots of thrills.

"With a crime rate of 41 per one thousand residents, Austin has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 24."

I've been to a whole bunch of college towns. And the thing that strikes me about Starkville is just what you said. Its nothing special. But when comparing it to other college towns...that's what makes it special. Going there is like going to Grandma's hometown... just with a lot more hot girls.
